‘Big Papa’, producer manager and co-founder of the platinum production and artist development company Underdog Music, has recently emerged as a major force in the music industry. Big Papa and his team have been making some big waves in the industry recently, one of Papa’s producers and other co-founder of Underdog Music King Wizard has been getting cut after cut with major artists. Some of King Wizard’s recent placements have been with artists such as Money Man, Lil Uzi, Lil Quil, Chevy Woods and many more.
We wanted to know just how Papa and the team at Underdog Music have been managing to get these placements with major artists. Papa agreed to talk with us via zoom, showing up looking sharp in a shirt and blazer with his signature hat. “When i’m talking business that’s when the hat comes out, and i’m always talking business” began Papa with a cheeky grin. It’s easy to see why they call him the “dot connector” as while I talked to him more his personable demeanour and no nonsense professionalism shone through.
After some general talk we wanted to get straight into things and asked Papa to talk about how he managed to land some of his recent placements “Collaboration is one of the key ethos’ and ways in which my producers land placements, especially King Wizard. Wizard has some of the best melodies in the game and his loops have recently become in high demand among the producer community. I myself have built up a network of some of the dopest producers in the industry and getting them material that they need for projects that they are working on is a key factor in getting placements. I have my ear to the ground on which artists are cutting and which people are producing for them”
Interested to know what lies ahead for Papa and his producers we asked him what he thinks the future holds for himself and the rest of the team. “We have some big things coming this year! King Wizard has been getting cuts left right and centre, we already had the dope Money Man track “For You” which dropped last month. They are now shooting a music video for it which is very exciting. There are lots of things that I can’t speak on right now but I can tell you that we are some of the hardest workers in this industry and people are starting to take notice”
It was a pleasure speaking with Big Papa and we are excited to follow his journey along with King Wizard and the rest of the team at Underdog Music. You can follow Papa via his Instagram page @bigpapaharvey for more information on his producers along with snippets of upcoming releases.
