Hi L, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey, thanks for having me, I’m doing great!
From all the songs out there, why did you choose to cover Peter Schilling’s “Major Tom”?
Since I grew up in Austria this song was always by my side, whenever I went out with my friends, but also on the radio.
What was the approach you went after?
I wanted to maintime the 80s feeling in the break but make the drop stand out more with a heavy bass-line
How did you go on balancing the original with your own take?
As mentioned above I used some 80s drums and synths so that I could maintain some of that oldschool feeling everybody knows from the original.
How was the recording and writing process?
I pitched the idea to Spinnin’, who then told me that Hyperclap had a similar idea and we went from there.
What was it like to work with Hyperclap and how did he come on board?
Unlucky we couldn’t work together in a Studio due to corona so we just sent the stems back and forth but I think in the end we still managed to produce an amazing song.
How much did he get to influence the song?
Peter Schilling? He was involved in the whole process and actually resung the whole vocal.
With the major reception your previous musical work has received – did you feel any pressure while putting this material together or rather the opposite?
Of course as an ambitious artist you always want your latest release to perform even better than the previous one, but this is a high goal and difficult to reach. Anyways I am really happy with the results so far!
What role does Germany play in your music?
Since I’m Austrian I always had a strong bond with german music, growing up and hearing it very often influenced me quite a lot!
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes! I have been working on so much new Music and also tried to experiment a little bit with my signature sounds, but also something completely new!
What else is happening next in LUM!X’s world?
Also yes! There will be lots of single-releases in the upcoming months! Stay tuned!
