First Roosevelt Roads development project kicks off

Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced participated today in the laying of the first stone for the construction of the Loopland Hotel, in the facilities of the Roosevelt Roads Base, in Ceiba.

David Brillembourg explained that the development of this hostel focuses on the old officers’ houses, remodeling the existing units. Part of the philosophy is to have the least impact on nature and rehabilitate these rooms that, once restored, will become villas and guest rooms.

The first executive stated that: “In the midst of earthquakes and a pandemic, we have to be grateful that we are here, promoting an important project for tourism and, therefore, for the economic development of Puerto Rico. We know that one of the sectors most affected by all the situations that we have experienced in recent months is tourism, but this project shows and is an example that we can move forward and that this industry will shine again on our island ” .

For his part, the secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce, Manuel A. Laboy Rivera, indicated that the total investment of the project is around 200 million dollars and once it is completed it will have 700 keys, which represent up to a total of 1,500 rooms.

Loopland will be carried out in 5 phases, each one upon completion generates 140 keys. The first phase will be ready by mid-2022 and the total project will be completed in a period of 10 years and will generate 1,500 direct jobs and 7,500 indirect jobs in its operation.

“The development of this hotel center was carried out considering a number of conditions, among them the talent of the area’s bilingual workforce and the importance of contributing to the economic development of the eastern region of the island. Currently, we have $ 1 billion in tourist developments on the agenda and Loopland is one of the most important projects in this area, which adds to others that we will continue to announce around the Island in the coming months. This is excellent news for the economic development of Puerto Rico. I am grateful to all the agencies that made it possible for the development of the first phase of this hotel project to begin today, which will strengthen our tourism offer and allow thousands to enjoy the natural beauty that the eastern part of Puerto Rico offers. To the Loopland team, thank you for trusting the Island as a destination to invest, ”said Laboy Rivera.

For his part, the mayor of Ceiba, Angelo Cruz Ramos highlighted the importance of the project for the island and the region.

“I always commented to the governors that to develop Puerto Rico there was only one place, Roosevelt Roads, we had 4 thousand ropes to develop and Thank God there was a vision of some investors who, beyond seeing a closed base, saw investment,” he expressed thanking the governor for promoting the project.

In a press release, it was stated that Loopland focuses on being one with nature and as part of its philosophy the pillars that represent the brand have been derived: sustainability, well-being, adventure, innovation, social impact, entrepreneurship and safety.

The development of this hostel focuses on the old officers’ houses. “We made the decision to remodel the units and put them back in all their glory. Part of our philosophy is to be able to have the least impact on nature and rehabilitating these rooms is part of this commitment ”. Brillembourg commented. These houses, once reestablished, will become villas and guest rooms, with solar systems for their energy production and water collection to be used in their gardens.

In addition, Loopland will have business incubators and spaces for the generation of new ideas and leadership, according to David Brillembourg. As part of its commitment to the environment and sustainability, Loopland will work hand in hand with local farmers and small businessmen in the area to offer its guests a gastronomic experience with the freshest products on the island.
