Two of the best actors of their generation – Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) and Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream) – are teaming up for a new series from the Apple streaming service according to our Distinguished Uptown Competition, The Hollywood Reporter.
The new eight episode show is titled WeCrashed and is based off of the uber-popular podcast of the same name. WeCrashed is a drama that centers on the rise and inevitable decline of a start-up company – known as WeWork – and the shallow, navel-gazing characters that hitch a ride on this particular Roman candle. This highly improbable scenario (tongue firmly planted in cheek with that line, Dear Readers) features Leto as the prez of the start-up and Hathaway as his wife and co-founder.
WeCrashed is being translated from podcast to the small screen by scibes par excellence Lee Eisenberg (The Office) and Drew Crevello (producer on the flick The Grudge 2). Eisenberg will be particularly busy for this production: Along with co-writing this sucker, he’s also been tapped to act as showrunner for the limited series (ditto Crevello) and will be serving as an executive producer. Wondery – the birth home of the podcast that the series is based off of – will also have exec producing credits along with (catching my breath here to list the rogues gallery doing the exec producing thing…) Charlie Gogolak, Natalie Sandy and Emmy Ludbrook.
Jared Leto is doing a rhumba back into TV Land for the first time since foiling Brian Krakow’s romantic overtures towards Claire Danes in the critical hit My So-Called Life. The man who was once Jordan Catalano has, of course, gone on to deservedly win raves (and an Oscar) in various and sundry film such as Fight Club and Dallas Buyers Club. No word yet on whether WeCrashed will reveal to Angela Chase that the love note she swooned to in the finale of My-So Called Life was Brian’s and not Jordan’s. Time will tell, television aficionados; time will tell. Not to derail ye olde scribbler from his (obvious) fixation on a long-gone series, but my editor wanted me to mention that both Leto and Hathaway will serve as executive producers on My So-Call…I mean both resplendent actors will serve as exec producers on WeCrashed. AHEM.
No official premiere date has been set as of yet for WeCrashed. Stay tuned, True Believers!
