INTERVIEW: UK Producer Venetian

Hi V, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

“I’ve been amazing thank you, it’s been a crazy year but all I’ve done is focus on my music so I can get everything I’ve worked on out in 2021. I’m so excited!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Feel Me”?

“Feel Me” started out as a rough demo that was submitted for a Spinnin’ Records competition hosted by Breathe Carolina, I never thought I would actually pursue and release the track myself, but then it got so much recognition in the competition that it was 2nd on the chart! The comments left by people really boosted my confidence in the track so I thought ‘why not?’. It went through so many changes, so many hours, so many ‘friends opinions’ until I finally had something I was incredibly happy with.

Me and my team then contacted LG Vision to get the music video shot. They were absolutely incredible so I’d definitely check them out.

I wanted to put everything I could into this track, so I spent every day in my studio, working on it and tweaking little things. I mean half of the things I would tweak I knew would barely be noticeable, but producing my own songs meant I was even more critical of my tracks.

The feedback I’ve had from the song has been amazing! That’s what it’s all about in the end, bringing something special to the world that lets you share a moment with them, in this case, it was Feel Me.”

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The idea behind the song was I wanted something that would explain that feeling of summer freedom and how you want to share that with someone else. How that person makes everything else disappear and it’s just you two in that moment. I’m sure we’ve all experienced it, you know, the feeling when you walk past someone and there’s that unexplainable instant connection. The initial push to actually make the song was because of the Spinnin’ Records competition, I’ve never entered one before but as an artist you should always take a good opportunity and I’m so glad I did.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

LG Vision was great, it’s the first time I’ve worked with a full crew and it made such a huge difference, they really knew what they were doing and it’s pretty amazing what they can do with the spaces we used when recording the video. You probably can’t tell but it was raining when we shot the rooftop part, reckon I’ll actually check the weather next time! Summer video yeah?

How was the recording and writing process?

Long… so very long, I basically had a Movember moment because I swear my beard became a bush. I do everything myself and producing music is a whole new ballgame compared to just performing the track. I’m still learning and I guess that never stops, but it’s fun. You have to discover things yourself and learn how to tweak and create sounds, I mean half the time I’m completely winging it, but that’s what helps create my own sound. I think the one thing I’d tell other artists who are just starting out, is learn how to produce music as even when you’re in a studio, knowing roughly what you’re doing makes explaining sounds you want to a producer so much easier.

What role does the UK play in your music?

Ah the UK, we representin’

I’m from a tiny little place near Derby, but the music that artists have released here has definitely shaped my musical tastes. There’s house influences, pop, R&B, indie, hell I’m pretty sure I have a grime demo somewhere.

I always feel our music has a more gritty vibe to it, like it’s more earthly. Must be all the rain…

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

YES! I’ve been sitting on a load of songs that I made in 2020, there’s chilled vibes, summer vibes, club vibes, vibey vibes.

Just depends on what I’m feeling at the moment. Most of them are at that ‘near finished’ stage, so just waiting on a little inspiration.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I’m going to say….summer. Expect something this summer, can’t really tell you much more than that.

What else is happening next in Venetian’s world?

Right now my focus is ‘Feel Me’, I want everybody to hear it, there’s been massive support in other countries so the push now is the UK.

We’re also already discussing which track to release next and have a pretty solid idea on this, so I’m also working on that song in the background too.

Once there’s a few tracks out, I’ll look at playing shows/festivals in 2021 too.
