Actor Samara Weaving Goes Biopic for Upcoming Film on Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte

Talented 28 year old Australian actor Samara Weaving (Bill & Ted Face the Music, Guns Akimbo) has just landed the part of real-life Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte, a wealthy American socialite from Boston who married into the family of Napoleon Bonaparte (yes, that Napoleon Bonaparte). This news comes hot off the presses from our uptown comrades at The Hollywood Reporter.

Entitled Liz (not to be mistaken for other noted “Liz’s” such as Elizabeth Taylor), this new film will be helmed by none other than Adam Leon (Tramps, Gimme the Loot) off of a screenplay by scripter Gabriel Neustadt who comes to this project off of her own writer-director debut back in 2015 in the short film O.E.D. Leon is keeping busy with not only Liz, but also a 2021 offering called Italian Studies which features actor Vanessa Kirby.

Liz will focus on Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte’s ascension in the upper-crust American social scene of the 1800s, with careful attention be given to her noted humor and all-but acknowledged celebrity status. Call it a hunch, but methinks the whole Napoleon twist will play into this particular biopic, too. The project has been aptly described in best The Player fashion as a cross between Bridgerton and The Great.

Samara Weaving is having, by any definition of the word, a “moment” as she comes to this project straight from such critically lauded roles in films like Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Ready or Not and the television adaptation of director Peter Weir’s classic film Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Liz is being produced by 3311 Productions (of Brigsby Bear fame). The production house is staring down a very busy year with not only Liz on their dance cards but also such projects as Kerem Sanga’s The Violent Heart and Pascual Sisto’s Sundance fave John and the Hole. No other casting details for the movie has been released.

Shooting dates for Liz have not yet been announced, nor has any potential theatrical release date. As always – you know the drill, True Believers! – Vents will keep everyone up to date on any news about Liz as soon as we receive it!
