Supplemental items you will need before you can conduct a doppler test

A fetal heart Doppler is a device that pregnant women should use to listen to the heartbeat of their unborn babies. The kind of joy that hearing the heartbeat comes is often overwhelming and comes with a level of satisfaction that nothing else can match. The use of fetal dopplers is something that doctors and obstetricians have been doing for a very long time now. However, the adoption by the masses where people now use the device in their own homes only happened recently. The level to which these devices are popular is very high and is expected to rise even more and the technology used to make them improves for the better. Today’s commercial baby heart monitor is very cheap and can be purchased very easily.

Even though these devices are now very common and almost everybody uses them, it is important to keep certain things in mind when using them. You will need to learn how to conduct the process before you term yourself as a baby monitoring expert. In this article, I am going to look at some of the materials you will need to have before you can monitor the heartbeat of your baby.

Ultrasound gel

The first thing you will need to have an ultrasound gel. Most people often wonder what this is because they don’t understand, but ultrasound gel is simply a mixture of a solvent referred to as propylene glycol and water. The gel is usually very cold and it usually has a very important role to play in the monitoring process. The gel helps by acting like a lubricant that helps in sealing the bond between the womb and the hand-held device that you will be using to do the monitoring. It removes any extra air that may exist between the device and the womb and helps with creating better conductivity for sound waves.

The gel also minimizes the amount of static output that is produced during the monitoring process, something that helps with the detection of the heartbeat precisely. With the gel in place, the chances that you will hear a strong heartbeat are very high.

Batteries

After you have the ultrasound gel in your hands, you will need to get batteries for the device because fetal Doppler devices operate on batteries. Since there are so many different types of devices out there on the market, you will need to make sure that the batteries you buy match your specific brand or model of Doppler. Some manufacturers sell their dopplers together with everything else a person need to do the monitoring. For instance, the device will come with batteries and the ultrasound gel among other supplies. So, when you reach home and need to use the device, you just pull out all the other supplies and get to work.

After you have monitored the heartbeat of your baby and are satisfied, you are advised to pull out the batteries from the Doppler and store them separately.

Headphones or speaker

Lastly, you will need a listening device to hear the heartbeat of your baby from. You could decide to use headphones if you are experiencing this magical moment alone, or you could use a speaker so that those around you can hear too.
