Seminal Fox Program “America’s Most Wanted” Gets a Revival

America’s Most Wanted was the show that I thought would never go the way of All-Flash; that seminal cornerstone of the Fox lineup that, rain or shine, always seemed to keep on trucking even as no less of a mensch and advocate for missing and exploited children John Walsh (who turned his own brutal and painful loss of a child into this true public service) continued his hosting duties year end and year out. From 1988 until 2012, America’s Most Wanted was responsible for bringing to justice nearly 2,000 criminals. Wanna know something even more impressive than that, Dear Readers? 17 of those 2,000 bad guys brought to justice were on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List. When you talk about a show that has left behind a beautiful legacy, America’s Most Wanted is the one that comes to the forefront of my mind. Of course, as all good things usually do, the show ended. But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s coming back in a big way to its original home, Fox.

Elizabeth Vargas of ABC News fame will be stepping into the very large shoes left behind by former host John Walsh for this all-new iteration of America’s Most Wanted. Premiering in March, the new show will stick to the tried and the true of the original by keeping the format we all know and love. New cases of bad guys on the lam from the law will be presented by Vargas week in and week out. Of course, this being 2021, social media will be a big instrument for the show to use in helping to bring to justice some pretty nefarious types, along with other Buck Rogers tropes such as 3-D projections and augmented reality.

“America’s Most Wanted empowered viewers to help America successfully capture some of its most dangerous fugitives,” Rob Wade of Fox said in a press release. “By bringing back this groundbreaking series with new and effective tech-based crime-fighting tools and acclaimed journalist Elizabeth Vargas, we hope to continue John Walsh’s long-standing mission to be a powerful voice for crime victims everywhere.”

The new America’s Most Wanted is coming our way courtesy of producers Fox Alternative Media Entertainment. Showrunning this new endeavor will be John Ferracane. He’ll be working alongside Tim and Jim Clemente and James Bruce of XG Productions and Glenn Geller.

America’s Most Wanted is scheduled to premiere this March.
