INTERVIEW: Drugs For Guns

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Heaven and Hell”?

It is a song highlighting how Governments are really interested in the ‘Human Rights’ of countries that have a resource they can exploit but turn a blind eye to appalling Human Rights abuses of countries that have nothing they want or countries they deem to be powerful, countries that can fight back either economically or militarily. It is also about how we are continually sold this illusion of them wanting ‘Peace on Earth’ when it is often about revenge or control of different parts of the world.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

No single event. Just years of watching this unfold on the TV.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes. ‘Heaven and Hell’ video should be released this week. Just doing final edits.

How was the recording and writing process?

The initial idea came together quickly but making Digital Music emotive is not easy so spent a lot of time getting the talking overdubs right.

What role does the UK play in your music?

None really. Just where we live. We are always looking out into the world!

How do you go on balancing the message with the music in a way they come together in a cohesive way?

That is a great question. When we started this band it was about making people want to dance but also feel something inside, some emotion. We wanted to try and inspire people to look at themselves and how they could improve their world and ultimately all of our worlds. It is about getting moral people out the pockets of immoral people/businesses. It is about getting people to think about environmental and political issues. But it was also important it did not become too ‘preachy’ and losing all the joy of the music. We believe we got the balance of music and message right in ‘Heaven Or Hell’ so  you can Dance while still thinking about Revolution!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Drugs For Guns will be releasing more music in the very near future. Currently we have two songs on Spotify but will be distributing hopefully another 5-8 tracks onto Spotify etc this year.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

New tracks should be available for free download from end of February. DFG is a non-profit organisation. We give all our music away for free. Any profit from gigs or Licensing goes to charities we believe in.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes. We are in contact with the Extreme tour of the USA about doing 3 months over there in the Summer but obviously this will be dependent on whether the US Government get’s in control of the Coronavirus and live events will then be allowed to happen.

What else is happening next in Drugs For Guns’ world?

Itching to get out and play live but as the UK is still in lockdown we are concentrating on writing and making videos for the new songs we are about to release.
