INTERVIEW: Daniel Javan

Hi Daniel, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey, it’s a pleasure to be here! I’ve been doing pretty good, staying at home mostly like everybody else because of the pandemic. Hopefully it will all be over soon and we can see each other IRL again.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Don’t Know Hot To Love”?

Don’t know How To Love is the name of my new single I’m dropping with my friend Naits from Norway! Me and Naits have been working on it for weeks now and we’re really excited to finally share it with the world and our fans have shown great response to the teaser of the song we posted on instagram!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I wouldn’t say any specific event but more like many events and relationships combined. My part of the song is about how I’ve been unlucky throughout many of my relationships so far which leads me to question, maybe I don’t know how to love, and like I say in the song, “maybe I’m sad, cause I’m meant to be broken”. Of course I know that the future is bright and life isn’t defined by these relationships which is important to realize.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

At the moment due to Covid-19 we haven’t really planned a video for the track but hopefully once things settle me and Naits might be able to work something out. We have however made a short teaser clip where we both sing along to our song on our instagram accounts: @_daniel_np & @naitsmusic

How was the recording and writing process?

For me, once I heard the beat, it was actually pretty straight-forward. I stepped in front of the mic and just started recording and freestyling and the chorus came together naturally. and Naits worked super hard on his part as well and recorded and re-recorded his part many times to make sure everythings perfect, same with his lyrics and melodies. Naits records in a studio and I record and write at home in my bedroom.

What was it like to work with Naits and how did that relationship develop?

So in the beginning I had recorded the chorus over the beat but not the verse and I was thinking that it would sound really beautiful with Naits’s vocals and lyrics on it. So I DM’d him on instagram with a link to the song and told him just that. Next thing I know, he listened to it and said that he really loved it so we started working on the song together and that’s how our relationship developed. Although we haven’t met IRL yet, working with him was a total blessing and we could both feel the mutual respect and love for each other both as human beings and artists. In the future we are looking forward to meeting each other IRL and working together having an amazing time.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

In terms of actually making the song it’s pretty much the same. I just make sure to communicate with the other person clearly and regularly to make sure that we’re both happy with the song. The beautiful thing about collaborating is that you can exchange ideas back and forth and make sure that the song becomes as good as possible together.

With your music getting so much momentum – do you feel any pressure while putting new material or rather the opposite?

Well I feel a pressure to put out music regularly like once a month and always improve with every song I release. However, that has always been my goal since I first started. Also I wouldn’t say it’s pressure, it’s more like a hunger to make music and constantly improve my craft. At the end of the day I see this opportunity as a blessing to have so many people listen to my music and relate to it.

What role does Sweden play in your music?

I actually don’t listen to Swedish music much, I’m mostly inspired by international artists and songs written in English but also spanish music, I love spanish music.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

For sure! As I mentioned my goal is to stay active with new music and release new music for my fans at least once a month.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I’ve got a few in mind but nothing is completely set yet, once it is I will update everyone on instagram.

What else is happening next in Daniel Javan’s world?

Currently school is taking up A LOT of my time with 3-6 exams and hand-ins every week. So I’m quite busy but I always try to find time for what I love to do, music. One of the goals I’m working towards is creating the opportunity to do music full time.
