SINGLE REVIEW: It Still You by Rusty Gear

US country music artist Rusty Gear has just released It’s Still You, the follow-up to his previous hit Check in Check Out Blues, which received a massive response at radio and across all streaming platforms. The new track blends classic country flavours with a smattering of contemporary elements to create a poignant track; an alluring, seductive tale of a long-lost love; a narrative whose universality chimes wonderfully with Rusty’s nuanced and expressive vocal. It’s Still You is an identifiable ode to memory, yearning, and the kind of inextinguishable emotional fire we all carry inside us. It’s an open-hearted yet unsentimental song that’s sure to reach the same heights as Rusty’s previous releases. It’s Still You harnesses many of the indelible hallmarks of memorable country music—the instrumentation, the good-time feel—and melds them to a rock-pop melodic sensibility. With over 900,000 Spotify streams and counting, Rusty’s new single will fortify his position in the contemporary country music world. It’s Still You will no doubt add to the many chart successes of Rusty has had with his first three albums: Happy Ending (2018), Second Gear (2019) and High Gear (2020). Rusty’s first single, Wondering Why, reached number one on Europe’s Hotdisc Top 40 country music chart and number 51 on Billboard’s Country Breakout Chart in the US. From High Gear, Sorry Excuses, featuring vocals by Bekka Bramlett, reached number two on the Roots Radio Chicago Blues Song Chart and High Maintenance reached number seven on the same chart. Also, from High Gear, Tequila Won’t Solve Your Problems hit number one on the Hotdisc Top 40 in April and Won’t Forget (Remix) was number one on that chart for four weeks in June. It’s Still You will solidify Rusty Gear’s standing as one of the most outstanding contemporary country artists of recent years.
