2021 Promises a New Season of Revival Show “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” Along With a New Season 2 Title

All will stand revealed – courtesy of Bloody Disgusting – for juicy plot details and a new subtitle for Nickelodeon’s upcoming second season of Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Are You Afraid of the Dark is a revival of an uber-popular horror anthology show aimed at younger audiences that originally premiered in late 1991. An entire generation came of age on this creepy-crawly foray into the series misadventures of mainstays the Midnight Society – a group of tween campfire, marshmallow guzzling purveyors of the paranormal – and their never-ending quest to tell the perfect ghost story. The new series which bowed in 2019 takes the same basic setup as its forefather, effectively telling some of the eerier stories of the supernatural in an anthology format.

New details have begun to emerge about the upcoming second season of everyone’s favorite scary show. To wit, the very first footage from the new season has dropped in the form of a teaser which reveals the full title for this iteration of the show: Are You Afraid of the Dark? Curse of the Shadows. The “curse” bit is actually a clever reference to the latest arch-enemy of the Midnight Society who goes by the catchy moniker of Shadowman.

Season two of the show will have a six episode slate and, according to the Nickelodeon press release, “This new group of kids tell a terrifying tale about a curse that has been cast over their small seaside town, haunted by an all-new villain named the Shadowman.”

So, who will be the brand-spankin’ new faces of the venerable Midnight Society in the second season? Funny you should ask, Dear Reader. They are, in no discerning order, actors Parker Queenan (from the upcoming Punky Brewster reboot), first-time actor Arjun Athalye, Beatrice Kitsos (Child’s Play), Dominic Mariche (Deadly Class), and Malia Baker (The Twilight Zone).

The second season of Are You Afraid of the Dark? Curse of the Shadows will premiere in 2021 on Nickelodeon. It is written by scribe JT Billings (Absinthe) who is pulling triple duty on the show: he also serves as showrunner and co-executive producer.

As usual you Masters of the Macabre, Vents will feed you any new info on the upcoming season of Are You Afraid of the Dark as it makes itself available to us.

In the meantime…Happy New Year; be kind to one another and watch a lot of movies and television. Life is better that way.
