Sequel to Smash Movie “Boss Baby” Delayed Until Late 2021

If you’re a fan of the 2017 Tom McGrath (Madagascar, Monsters vs. Aliens) directed computer animated flick The Boss Baby, chances are you’re about to be disappointed with the latest news about the film’s sequel The Boss Baby: Family Business.

Per those loveable New Year’s Eve raconteurs at the Hollywood Reporter comes the news that the anticipated DreamWorks Animation and Universal film – which is set to feature the vocal talents of such heavy-hitting Hollywood types as Alec Baldwin, Ariana Greenblat, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy Kimmel, James Marsden (replacing actor Tobey Maguire from the first flick), Amy Sedaris, Jeff Goldblum, Eva Longoria, and even that of director James McGrath – has been delayed until September 17 of 2021 from its original release date of March 26, 2021.

Following suit along with Boss Baby: Family Business is the DWA movie Bad Guys which had also delayed its own release. A 2022 release is now anticipated for this movie, with an official announcement expected in the coming weeks.

The original Boss Baby was based quite loosely off of the Marla Frazee 2010 picture book and featured a story about a young boy who gives his baby brother an assist. Said baby brother just happens to be a secret agent in the battle for grownup’s love between puppies and babies. The movie was a huge hit, raking in over $520 million at the worldwide box office; it also was honored with an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.

The delays for these family movies are just a couple in a full dance card of films that have opted to postpone their original release dates due to the ongoing worldwide pandemic. The Boss Baby sequel had some animation production done remotely amidst the COVID crisis.

The Boss Baby: Family Business is written for the screen by Michael McCullers (Undercover Brother) and is produced by creator Marla Frazee along with Jeff Herman (replacing the first movie’s producer Ramsey Ann Naito), Jon Eric Schmidt, and John Swanson.

As always True Believers, Vents will endeavor to keep you up to date on any new information on The Boss Baby: Family Business as it becomes available to us.
