Lecretia Ann, from South Carolina has an album, and Better Thangs is what it’s all about, with a fabulous new single “Does She Know” making the lead cut with “Roll It Up” also getting attention from what is a really great collection of country songs with a twist in every single one of them. But not having been familiar with Lecretia Ann, it’s hard to know where to start about this spicy country artist with a rootsy quality to her well-crafted songs. Nothing she does is rushed or over polished, it’s made of a fresh authenticity that helps get you through the pandemic blues.

If not for these two tracks, I wouldn’t know Lecretia Ann from a bar of soap, but now I am addicted to her music and happy to say these are only the tip of the iceberg, and I hope she goes far beyond the constraints of 2020 in the future. The new frontier needs music and Lecretia Ann serves up the gospel through her songs, you get it all once you’ve partaken in this true country artist with more on her mind than just that. This is really something special, so if anything, I am a fan.
“Does She Know” comes from the heart of Lecretia Ann’s grandmother who dedicated every afternoon to watch her favorite TV show, The Long And The Resltess. But not knowing anything about that, I can only say it is where the lyrics are based on the relationships between a few of the stars of the show. It’s just the backdrop and a good one to explain where Lecretia Ann got the idea to sing it as if it were happening to herself. As for the song itself it is a hit song if I have ever heard one, but that is just the beginning.
I couldn’t stop playing it and just let it loop for a while, which is how I usually get a track to stick or not, I just let it play until I’m ready to move on. “Does She Know” on repeat serves to pass the ultimate test and I can easily imagine it going on playlists already. This is a trending thing that cannot be avoided, so I expect to see it the goal of most indie artists. This one is good for crossing several genres between the country and rock varieties, both modern and classic.

“Roll It Up” is the second and more hard rocking number to say nothing but Better Thangs about with Lecretia Ann pulling out all stops at the end of nine songs, taking it out with a showstopping gem. If you like you country with more of a rocking edge, “Roll It Up” might even be the better of these two selections, it depends on my mood so I am as grateful for them as I am for getting to hear all the tracks and find an artist worth following and seeing where the long road takes another brilliant indie artist.
