Gaming mouse pad buying guide

Are you just getting started as a gamer or have you been playing for the rest of your life, but wish to know your options when it comes to gaming mouse pads? The truth is that regardless of how much of a gamer you are, you can always learn something new to make you even a better gamer. When it comes to mouse pads, whether custom mousepad gaming or mainstream mouse pads in the store, it all comes down to three important factors. These three factors are the surface, the base, and the edges. These are the three most important factors that you should pay attention to when you are picking a mouse pad.

In this guide, I will illustrate how the three factors I have mentioned above are important in choosing a mouse pad.

The surface

There is a lot of creativity in the gaming industry today. This has led to the introduction of a lot of surfaces for mouse pads to choose from. When you are considering the surface, you should look at the fabric that the surface is made from, the construction, and the weave. These are the most important factors to be considered even though manufacturers are using a lot of nice words to describe their products and to fool buyers into making bad choices.

The surface will determine the texture and how comfortable you will be when playing for an entire weekend. You don’t want to have sore hands from playing because of a bad surface on your mouse pad. A good surface also causes minimal wear and tear on your mouse.

The base

The base makes the skeleton of your mouse pad and is the most commonly overlooked part of any pad. The base is what differentiates good mouse pads from bad ones. Bases are designed in different thicknesses and this often has a lot of effect on your gaming experience. The three types of bases to consider are slim bases, heavy bases, and standard bases. Slim bases are 2mm thick, heavy bases are 5mm thick, and standard bases are 3mm in thickness. Slim bases offer a more solid feel while heavy bases offer a comfortable feel. Standard bases a mix of comfort and a solid feel. Each base is most ideal in different conditions and gaming styles, so you should choose accordingly. You can also have multiple pads with different bases to try them before you determine what you like most.

The edge

The edge is what holds the surface and the base together into one unit. In most cheap mouse pads, the edges are attached together using glue that often starts to fray over time. In high-quality products, the edges are usually stitched together to secure the seams between the surface and the base. Stitching holds out much better against fraying, ensuring that the product lasts very long. Also, this makes it easier and more convenient to wash the pad when it is necessary. You can even use a machine to do the washing without the fear of damaging it.
