A whirlwind of emotions awaits you in YOUWIN’s newest release ‘Sad Boy Season’. From dance your heart out vibes that will have you bouncing along to the beat and possibly off the ceiling, to pain driven bangers that will have you filling your bathtub with your own tears.
Nobody is safe from YOUWIN’s mix of infectious hooks and tear jerking verses, although he’s called YOUWIN, we all definitely feel like winners in finding this hot, fast-upcoming artist. Before delving into the tape we just had to ask him about his name: “My mom came up with it. I wanted to go with my real name (Ewan) but nobody can f****** pronounce it”.
As we delve into ‘Sad Boy Season’ we can see a lot of inspirations within YOUWIN’s work. The magic of a mixtape is the flexibility to show your versatility and YOUWIN takes full advantage here. Injecting a myriad of flavours from the Biggie inspired ‘Christopher Wallace’ to the box of tissues needed ’Spectre’ with its haunting piano melody and heartfelt heartcrafted lyrics.
A few tracks definitely caught our attention while listening through the mixtape, one of these was ‘Westwood’. ‘Westwood’ is of a different breed, a fresh modern club classic managing to also capture a feel of nostalgia with its trance-like undertones. This one had us turning up the speakers and yearning for the good old days (and a pair of glow sticks). Another one of the tracks that struck a chord with us was ‘Sugar’. ‘Sugar’ brings a more soulful feel to the mix and really puts the spotlight on YOUWIN’s ability to craft stories through his lyrics. His vocals shine very brightly within the track and bring a new experience of depth and warmth, you might even go so far as to describe them as “sweet like sugar.”
After experiencing the full extent of ‘Sad Boy Season’ we are hungry for more and excited for what comes next. We asked YOUWIN where his motivation comes from, as we all know this industry is very competitive and there are a lot of other artists vying for that top spot. “You can’t out rap me, if you can, I’ll out work you. If you out work me, I’ll outshine you. I love [music] more than anything. It’s the greatest high that exists and nothing has felt as natural as music to me.”
The ‘Sad Boy Season’ mixtape showcases a great talent within YOUWIN, the range of his ability both as a vocalist and writer definitely left us wanting more. YOUWIN told us that there will be plenty more material to come over the next year. We will be sure to follow YOUWIN’s progress, we have a feeling his journey has just begun.
