INTERVIEW: Parallel Action

Hi Jude, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thanks, I’m doing well, been crazy busy getting this first release ready. Working on the music, video & artwork, exciting times!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “10/10”?

It’s Parallel Action’s first single out so its a big one for this new venture. A collaboration with Charlie boy Manson from Manchester, It’s a dark heavy banger, a session of urban angst with raw, gritty, bass punk attitude.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Lockdown enabled me to push the Parallel Action project forward. From a production view point, I feel this track is a reflection of what’s happening around us currently, I wanted to reinforce that in the sonic energy of the tune.Charlie Boy’s lyrics reflect his own twisted journey delivering dark sharp lyrics with a straight-up poetic edge.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes!,  – (Video link below) – my background is in filmmaking and graphics and this new project has a very visual led cinematic sound,I’ve been crafting away at a video for the past few weeks. It’s hard hitting and punchy. Watch out for the strobes!.

How was the recording and writing process? What was it like to work with Charlie Boy Manson and how much did he get to influence the song?

So, Charlie Boy Manson and I first met at the radio station I’ve got a show on, Threads Radio in Tottenham, he’s part of of the Loose lips Crew who run the station.I’d been looking to work with some vocalists and asked if he was into the idea of working on a collab release…I shared some sketch tracks and he fired back some heavy words and the the project was born.It was at this point I really got into crafting the tracks, giving them the attitude they needed.

What led you to seek for a new direction this time around?

Parallel Action is a new journey for me musically in general and is inspired by my love of deep, dark downtempo grooves, I first started getting into music in the late 80’s, so UK hip hop has always been a big influence, but so has brit-core, trip hop, Jazz breaks, psychedelic experimental stuff and film soundtracks, I want to explore these types of styles with modern production techniques, I’m really into telling stories with my productions, journey tracks as I like to call them, I think this stems from my visual work.

Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Part of the want to create Parallel Action is to explore collaboration in music, up until now it’s been a very solo process for me under my other alias so I’m exited to open this up and let new things happen. I’m interested in working with vocalists, poets and storytelling in music.Im really happy how this EP has turned out so watch this space for more collaborations, both vocally and musically.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

10/10 is a single from the forthcoming EP with CBM, We’ve made another track ‘Memories’ and both instrumental versions will also feature on the release. More diverse singles to follow in a build up to an album in the summer. Hoping to do some kind of live / online launch with all the collaborators, stay locked!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The EP will be out late Jan on digital and super limited vinyl, it’s up for pre-order now in a few places, like on the C7NEMA100 & Loose Lips bandcamps and should be in most stores in the next few weeks.

What else is happening next in Parallel Action’s world?

Currently working on the next single with an amazing female artist which should be out at the end of march, which I can’t wait to share! I think once the the tracks start getting released you’ll get an idea of where the projects direction is heading. Im always starting new ideas for tracks and also working on visual treatments for things.
