INTERVIEW: Davy Williamson

How would you classify your music?

I recently saw a description of my music in an review that, I would say is pretty close, something to the effect of “Vocally Davy is like a mixture of Dave Grohl meets Chester Bennington” and live one time, was told the music was a mixture of a Hard Rock Version of the 90’s rock band Tonic. But I will leave it for the public.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

  1.  Lagwagon
  2. Smokey Robinson
  3. Phil Collins
  4. Face to Face
  5. Gin Blossoms

What do you want fans to take from your music?

Heartfelt, honest, direct, and aggressive lyrical content.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

There are amazing musicians, and bands, (WeedEater, He Is Legend, L Shape Lot, Etc……) the crowds in a college town like where we are from (Wilmington, NC) most everyone is hyped up on “partying” more than being a band following, ticket purchaser…. So it poses to be difficult to pull off a great show very often unless we travel out of town….

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

Best concert I have ever been to is Foreigner at the house of blues in Myrtle Beach. I like the lights blinding me and my monitor squealing in my ear while I try to sing! jk… I like to hear the crowd singing along, amazing when that happens.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

I have only released a single at this point but “Thin Disguise” might possibly be my favorite anyway off of the upcoming EP.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

I just started writing and recording again after a long break, now that I’ve taken on playing all the instruments myself and backing my music financially alone, I’d say more than anything I’ve become responsible and more serious than ever about pursuing my music career.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Joey Cape (Lagwagon)

What’s next for you?

Finishing my Debut Solo EP., Following up on all the radio stations I have been played on during a recent national radio campaign and work on building a larger fanbase.
