Having spent his first year after graduating college sofa-surfing the US on tour, Brendan Abernathy is as much known for his contagious joy and adventurous spirit as he is for his honest lyrics, friendly voice, and a live performance you can literally feel. A project-based songwriter, Brendan’s first project, Hope You Have, considered the period of transition from college to ‘the real world.’ His sophomore record, Leo, navigates the phase of loneliness plaguing post-grad life. By diving into emotion at a level felt by all but expressed by too few, Brendan is able to give voice to the experiences of many twenty-somethings.
Today we are pleased to join forces with Abernathy for the premiere of his new single “Indecision,” the captures many of the aforementioned sides of him, especially the honest lyrics.
About the song, Brendan comments “Perhaps my defining characteristic as a human, Indecision is my heart-song. It’s a powerful piano ballad that simultaneously laments and heralds my tendency to overthink everything down to my literal thoughts on indecision itself. There’s this chaotic interplay within the peaceful-sounding melody of all these wills changing, but the persiting feeling that there is some destined direction — “there’s a fork in the road and I’m bound to take it.” Indecision is a paralysis that so many of us struggle with, and I’m just thankful to have the opportunity to give a belting voice to that inner indecisive champion in each of us.”
