London-based alt-pop rapper Ashnikko wraps her momentous 2020 with “Daisy 2.0” featuring Hatsune Miku, a remix of her meteoric smash single “Daisy”. The collaboration finally unites Ashnikko with fellow blue-haired maven Hatsune Miku, the hugely popular Japanese avatar of voice-synthesizing software whose recent collaborations include Lady Gaga and Pharrell. Ashnikko gushes “Honestly the most iconic link up of my career! Time stops. The tectonic plates of the earth shift. The two blue pigtail queens collide.”
Fueled by art, music and sexual liberation, Ashnikko’s meteoric rise began after the release of her breakout Hi It’s Me EP featuring TikTok-fueled hit “Stupid,” which has accumulated a whopping 205 million streams to date, and other meme-able anthems “Working Bitch” and “Tantrum.” She was born and raised in suburban Greensboro, North Carolina, and spent her teenage years in Eastern Europe, where she buried herself in Tumblr culture and music made by empowered, misfit women, listening exclusively to female artists – M.I.A., Nicki Minaj, Bjork, Kelis and Janis Joplin to name a few – all of whom shaped her early sound. As soon as she turned 18, she moved to London completely alone, to make it as a musician. After years of “grueling” nocturnal nightlife jobs, which only cemented her early feminist leanings, she unleashed her debut EP Sass Pancakes (2017), followed by Unlikeable (2018) and the self-empowering breakthrough EP Hi, It’s Me, propelling the blue-haired maverick to new heights last year. Now the best is yet to come with DEMIDEVIL, the biggest and boldest Ashnikko release to date.
