Announced this morning through the Mystery Machine Kids at The Hollywood Reporter is the casting news of legendary actor Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune) in director Ridley Scott’s upcoming true-crime thriller Gucci.
Gucci centers on the shocking murder of fashion icon Maurizo Gucci and is based off of the Sara Gay Forden book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed.
The film, which has a crackerjack script penned by Roberto Bentivegna, has already caused a stir with its recent casting of a veritable raft of high-profile actors. Thespians Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Al Pacino (The Godfather), Reeve Carney (Snow Falling on Cedars), Jack Huston (Kill Your Darlings), Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream) and Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) will all be joining Jeremy Irons in this upcoming MGM feature film.
So, who’s who in this fashion runway murder mystery? Our sources have it that Lady Gaga will be essaying the part of Gucci’s ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani. Quick armchair sleuths might recall that it was Patrizia that was implicated and ultimately convicted for pulling the strings that directly led to her ex-husbands demise after she caught him in an affair.
Adam Driver is on board as the titular Gucci, while Irons has been tasked with playing Rodolfo Gucci, the father of the slain fashion icon.
Director Ridley Scott will be pulling double-duty with his usual top-notch direction as well as serving as a producer for the project along with Giannina Scott. The team will be producing through their production house Scott Free Productions. Also joining in on all of the producing fun will be Kevin Walsh.
Jeremy Irons is coming off of a particularly busy time in his career, having agreed to reprise his role of Alfred Pennyworth in the upcoming HBO MAX Zach Snyder vanity-fest Justice League. Also on the consummate actor’s plate is the currently in-production film adaptation of Robert Harris’s critically lauded book Munich in which he plays the part of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain.
Gucci will be walking the runway (i.e. will be released in movie theaters) as of November 24, 2021.
