Alex De Grassi Release Video for His Rendition of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”

Alex de Grassi is excited to announce the release of his rendition of the classic holiday record “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” out now and available everywhere (https://alexdegrassi.lnk.to/santaclaus). The new single will be accompanied by the animated music video, produced by animator Greg Browe. Alex de Grassi’s “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” video gives a creative nod to the holiday music of Vince Guaraldi on time-honored Peanuts holiday specials.

Alex de Grassi takes the holiday classic to gorgeous new heights both on the song and in the video. He adds, “I figured if James Taylor could get away with doing it, why not give it a try?  I like the way this song swings and when it came to making a video, I immediately thought of animation. We were fortunate to find in Greg Browe a talented animator who could express the joy and excitement of Christmas seen through the eyes of a child–appropriately suspicious, but, ultimately, ready to believe in the big guy with the beard.”

The new single was recorded by multi- GRAMMY® award winner and TEC Hall of Fame engineer Leslie Ann Jones at the legendary Skywalker Sound studio in Northern California. Recorded without pickups, nor headphones to monitor and with simply great mics and four guitars including his signature model Lowden. The single features sound engineer, Steven Miller, renowned for his work with many acoustic guitarists (including Michael Hedges landmark recording Aerial Boundaries) and various Windham Hill artists mixed the post production.  Grammy award winner Gavin Lurssen of Lurssen Mastering in L.A. mastered the album.

The new single comes out on the heels of his critically acclaimed album The Bridge released earlier this year with Tropo Records and Six Degrees Records Distribution! The new album is a collection of compositions and arrangements that demonstrate the range of Alex de Grassi’s career and his prowess as a performer, musician and composer. The Bridge was Alex’s first solo guitar recording in 17 years since his Now and Then: Folk Songs for the 21st Century (Tropo Records/33rd Street 2003).

Alex de Grassi has been a unique voice in the world of acoustic guitar for the past 42 years; his innovative approach to composing and arranging for solo steel-string guitar has influenced a generation of younger players. He is known for his evocative compositions and arrangements, and his sheer virtuosity has helped lay the foundation for contemporary fingerstyle guitar. Vintage Guitar hailed De Grassi’s playing as “Flawless sense of rhythm.” And said of his new album, “In all, The Bridge lets us hear the master at work.  It’s a beautiful, introspective album that’ll make you grateful de Grassi is back.” Tastemaker PopMatters adds, “”The Bridge” provides further evidence of his compositional prowess and his ability to fuse the heady world of virtuosity with deep emotions. His inimitable voice remains intact and as awe-inspiring as ever.”

Using a broad palette of techniques and timbre in conjunction with his ability to weave together melody, counter-melody, bass, harmony, and rhythm into a highly orchestrated canvas of sound, Alex’s performances take the listener well beyond the instrument. He has graced stages across the world including live performances in Europe, Latin America, Asia, throughout North America, and at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Montreux Jazz Festival. For now, during the time of COVID-19, De Grassi is writing and creating new music and looks forward to returning to the stage and performing when we can safely enjoy events once again.
