Hi Jay, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Yooo thanks for having me!

I’ve been great, making the best of this pandemic and creating as much as possible.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Too Long”?

Yeah, absolutely!

“Too Long” came about when an upcoming producer named Masodrip reached out to me on IG wanting to work.He sent a pack and when the instrumental played it spoke to me immediately. The melody for the chorus came about instantaneously and it gave me chills. From that moment everything began to flow and the track was written in a couple hours; When it was finished I checked the time and it was 4:00 AM. From there, I linked up with my trusted engineer and producer Kevin Farrell who helped put together the final touches. With his strong background in pop music the song was structured to perfection allowing the beauty behind it to really stand out.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

When creating I try to write in a way that the listener can come to their own interpretations that are special to them. With that being said, I can tell you that this song for me personally was influenced by the loss of my mom in 2018 to leukemia followed by my grandma who passed away peacefully in 2019. This is a record inspired by accepting those situations and still being able to hold on to the memories, the feelings, the love, etc. For me, music is a way to share my emotions as it is hard for me at times to do this on a day to day basis.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

This track most likely will not have a video. However, there will be a moving cover art piece that will go along with it which will be added to places such as Spotify, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process for this was nearly instantaneous from the moment the melody and feeling/vibe came to me. The words and my thoughts flowed together perfectly to the point that I lost track of time; Before I knew it was 4:00 AM and it was complete. From there a studio session was arranged with Kevin. Once this was set, as I do with all of my songs, I had completely memorized “Too Long” as if it were a performance. By doing this, we were able to lay down all of my vocals within 1 – 2 hours. This allowed plenty of time to give a flawless finished production and product.

What role does New Jersey play in your music?

This is a really good question!

In general New Jersey is where I was born and raised so it holds a special place in my heart. It was where my parents surrounded me with music from all different genres and eras ranging anywhere from James Brown to Elvis Costello, from Bob Marley to Carl Cox, from The Spin Doctors to John Denver and Luthor Vandross. The list goes on.

This was also where I first was inspired to sing and eventually freestyle and rap. It was where my first song was created and where my first performance was. There were just so many events and learning experiences that shaped me into the person I am today both musically and personally that happened in my home state.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

“Too Long” is the onset to a follow up track within the same month of December. Both songs are ready to go with a music video currently in the works for the second single.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

There is!

The next single will be titled “Insane” and it is set to release on 12/16/20.

What else is happening next in Jay Diener’ world?

There is definitely a lot going on heading into 2021!

With a strong team in place you can expect to hear much more music from me as well as intriguing visuals. We will also be looking into ways to continue to adapt to the new climate we are currently living in. For instance, no one really knows when shows will be back to normal, so we will find ways to adjust via other avenues to perform for fans exclusively. To sum everything up we will continue producing, creating and growing. 2021 will be special!!!
