Written, produced and mastered during lockdown, new track ‘Rush’ saw the young singer-songwriter swap the studio for a Peugeot 208 to sample the percussion of this strikingly well-crafted tune. As a result, ‘Rush’ is the perfect example of Matt Taylor’s creativity and musical versatility. A cinematic track, laden with honest and infectious lyrics exploring the feeling of cutting a former lover loose from your life. In the video, Matt is dancing alone on the chalk cliffs of Seven Sisters while his world is turning upside down: an embodiment of Matt’s audacious and vibrant brand of indie pop.
Speaking about the track, the epilogue of his recent EP, Matt says, “The whole EP was about one person, so I wanted this to be the last song about them. With all production work done during lockdown, it made the song feel far more personal to me. Once the song was finished, it felt like a massive weight off my shoulders – like I could finally move on.’
Regarding the video, Matt adds; “Most importantly, I wanted the video for ‘Rush’ to convey movement. Spending time in the open helped me with writing my last EP, and I consider ‘Rush’ to be the end to that, so I worked with the director to combine both of these elements. We then spent a day choreographing the movement so it was as natural and flowing as possible to match the song’s pace. The only major prop we used in the video was a Peugeot 208, which we rented to get a realistic sample, and it ended up being the most costly part of the video!”
