Hi Joakim, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been great. Working in my tremendous home studio in the cellar while taking care of my 4 month baby girl Pomona above. It’s sad what’s going on in the world but if I make my world very small it seems to be the best time in my life. Thankful for every day.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Chasing Circles”?
The first song ever written as lodet quite some time ago. I was here, there and everywhere. Not sure what I wanted in life so I moved to Gothenburg from Stockholm. I needed a dramatic change – best choice ever. When I got back three years ago I was still broken but surrounded by the best in life; friends, my studio, the east winds. I began to appreciate the little things.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yes. My early life as an lonely troubadour playing for rich old people on an island called Bequia in West Indies.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Yes, stay tuned.
The single comes off your new album Many Days – what’s the story behind the title?
Just felt like using that particular song title was a good idea for the EP. Sometimes it is best to keep things simple.
How was the recording and writing process?
Just a pleasure. Love writing music. It´s never boring or difficult. It’s just a joyful time. The recording was different. I went to Richmond Virginia with my manager whom I had never met before. I was really nervous. Was a wreck due to jetlag and coming straight from my best friend’s birthday party. On top of that I was gonna record in an amazing studio with some cool guys that I had never met either. Showing my songs to them and stepping out of my comfort zone; I usually do all the recording and production myself. It was scary. But they took good care of me, and the songs too. They are the best musicians I’ve worked with. Huge thanks to Matthew E. White and the Spacebomb crew.
What role does Sweden play in your music?
Well, my biggest influence is from Sweden. Jan Johansson. Music has no borders particularly in a digital worth so hopefully we export that influence with this EP.
What aspect of your own personal life did you get to explore on this record?
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
It could happen at any time. Usually just sitting down with the guitar or piano thinking now i’m going to write a song. Finding a nice drum loop and then plug in a guitar and a mic with some reverb.
Often starts with me daydreaming about me performing a non existing song. It´s then in my head: a lyric phrase, guitar riff or just a feeling! “Oh I want a song like this”.
What else is happening next in lodet’s world?
I have tons of new songs and are focusing on releasing my first album next year. Working title “Lemons”.
