INTERVIEW: Andrew Pololos

Hi Andrew, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

All is well! Thank you for having me. I’ve been in the studio every day so I can’t really complain J

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Control”?

Absolutely. “Control” is the second single from my upcoming album and is the opening track of the project.

Did anything in particular inspire you to write the track?

I love fun, happy, feel-good house music, but I wanted to make something moodier and sexier than my previous releases to add some diversity to the album. Combine that with the dark, cold Canadian winter and you’ve got “Control”.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

We just released various video content with the release! My friend let me borrow his Lamborghini Urus (crazy right?!) for the video which was so much fun driving. JT Soul and I were like kids in a candy store the entire time.

The single comes off your new album Until We Dance – what’s the story behind the title?

The album title is a line from one of the upcoming tracks on the album that goes: “Until we dance again together”, sung by an awesome Nigerian artist name Damvic. I wrote the aforementioned track during strict lockdown last April and that was kind of my way to cope with the situation and hopefully bring some good vibes to people. That track has a beachy, wavy, happy vibe, and thought it best represents this album that is releasing during an unusual time for everyone. And as a nightclub DJ for the last 11 years, I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love; making people dance.

How was the recording and writing process?

The entire process of this track took over a year. I produced many sketches, drafts, versions, and then looked far and wide to find the perfect vocal to take it to another level. I recorded French words and lyrics on it and sent it to many people up until JT Soul was interested and did his thing.

What was it like to work with JT Soul and how did that relationship develop?

Working with him was fun. So much so that I wouldn’t even call it work. He’s a dope artist and is super talented. I’ve been supporting and playing his tracks in the club from the moment I heard them. Every time we’re together we have a good laugh and I look forward to collaborating with him again.

How much did he get to influence the song?

He brought the vision to fruition and nailed the alluring and mysterious vibe I was going for. He got it immediately before I even had time to give him any direction lol. It took him about an hour to write, so you could imagine how fired up I was. He’s got such a cool voice and we’re from the same city so he understood where I was coming from.

What role does your hometown Montreal play in your music?

Everything. I’ve been going at it for over a decade now. If my day 1s here didn’t support and encourage me all this time, I would probably be doing something else today.

And for those that have never been to Montreal; I would describe it to you as the perfect combination of European charm and American culture. Montreal has such a rich music history that many people don’t know about.

With that being said, this upcoming album is very vocal and made accessible to people who maybe wouldn’t otherwise listen to dance/electronic music, while still staying true to myself and my hometown as an underground house lover.

What else is happening next in Andrew Pololos’ world, other than the album release in March?

This album is just the beginning of my career as a producer so I’m going to be going full throttle this winter to improve my craft and complete the next project J I’d like to come out of this lockdown and get back to DJing in the summer with a huge array of my tracks to play. I can’t wait to travel as well. I have so many countries to visit on my bucket list!

Thanks for having me. Much love to you guys and the listeners <3
