INTERVIEW: Leandro Da Silva

Hi Leandro, welcome to VENTS how have you been?

Hi guys! Thanks for having me, I’m pretty good despite the current situation!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single ‘Breathe’?

‘Breathe’ will be released on Altra Moda, a Dutch label I have been aiming for, for a long time! Whilst we are waiting to travel again, go to festivals  and clubs, we can’t forget to ‘Breathe’ and be grateful we are alive!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Not in the beginning! Now that is has been produced and it is ready for release, I can say that it accidentally came about due to the times we are living in. Being stuck at home, in our city, our country, the track is a breath of fresh air!

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Not at the moment. Unfortunately, since I am in Rome and the guys are in England it would not be easy to organise the transfers as both countries are in lockdown. We will see in the future, maybe upcoming collaborations!

What was it like to work with Rion S and Matt Kerley? How did those relationships develop?

We met on Instagram, Matt always sent me his music and I really enjoy his work. When he sent me the idea to collaborate on ‘Breathe’ I immediately accepted and I was very excited about the project.

How much did they get to influence the song?

I believe the track is the perfect fusion of our musical tastes and styles. It was great to collaborate with them. There was a continuous exchange of ideas, tools and stems. Rion S wrote the melody, Matt knocked out a structure and I closed the track by adding my groove.

Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

Yes, absolutely. When you are alone you have 100% creative freedom, when collaborating with another producer it is important to respect the work that has already been done, to respect their style and to find the perfect compromise. Sometimes it is more difficult but often brings out the best in everyone involved.

With the major reception your music has gotten in the community and with fans – does that put any pressure on you as you work on new material or rather the opposite?

It doesn’t put pressure on me, it energises me. I’m developing a new sound right now and can’t wait to get it to my fans.

What role does London play in your music?

London is where it all starts. It plays a central role not only for my musical influence but for most dance music lovers all over the world. Usually if it works in London then in works everywhere!

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, I already have a follow up ready together with Rion S! With lots of exciting things to come next year!

Any tentative release dates in mind?

Sure, this collaboration will be released on my label Black Lizard Records in one month. December the 18th, my birthday! More over my remix of Rocket Penguin will be released on Ultra Music.

What else is happening next in Leandro Da Silva’s world?

I’m producing a lot right now, but most of all I can’t wait to go back to live shows, hopefully including London!
