Hi Matt! How are you?
“Hey man! I’m doing great! Thanks for having me!”
Where are you from?
“I am from the Central Valley in California, more specifically the small town of Merced.”
What is your greatest inspiration for your music?
“Whether I’m writing about love, heartbreak, mental health, or even just about having fun, I always use my own life experiences as inspiration. Now this can come from something that happened to me personally or happen to someone I know. I always make sure to pay close attention to my surroundings and the people around me when looking for inspiration.”
What are 3 words that describe your music?
“Fun. Love. Truth.”
What is the hardest subject you’ve ever written about?
“My song “Demons” was about my struggle with depression. I had never opened up publicly about this part of my life before. What made this subject so hard for me to write about was, that in doing so, I had to hear myself express my pain outside of only my head. Most of it didn’t even make sense on paper in the beginning. I had to really hone in on the lyrics, making it feel almost as if I was in a therapy session.”
What are the challenges of being an artist?
“I feel like one of the biggest challenges an artist faces, and this includes me, is depression and anxiety. I feel like this is the case because of how big we dream. We always expect so much more from ourselves than others expect from us. In a whole, we are impatient and want our dreams to become reality instantly, but the world will never work like that. I have struggled, and still do, through depression and anxiety almost every day and most likely will for the rest of my life, because we dream too big to ever stop. We dream too big to ever let the pressure off of ourselves. Our dreams will continue to grow, and hopefully inspire others.”
Are you planning on releasing new music soon?
“Yes! I actually have a PopPunk version to “Deck the Halls” release this holiday season (DEC. 1st), as well as more original singles coming out early 2021! I’m super excited for everyone to hear what I’ve been working so hard on!”
