If you’re a fan of movies, there’s something viscerally exciting about a star-packed cast uniting on the silver screen to weave their respective talents for us. The George Stevens extravaganza really kicked the concept of a top-heavy marque with the acting trifecta of James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson in the epic film Giant. Other films, too, have lined up for their turn at bat with star-studded affairs from films as rich and diverse as True Romance, Sneakers, Interview with the Vampire and Ocean’s 11. Joining that hallowed and exclusive group is director Adam McKay’s upcoming opus Don’t Look Up.
Via the esteemed blokes at The Hollywood Reporter comes the news that superlative actors Tyler Perry, Melanie Lynskey and Ron Perlman will be breaking bread with fellow thespians Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Timothee Chalamet, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Matthew Perry, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Himesh Patel, Rob Morgan and Tomer Sisley. The occasion, as mentioned above, is McKay’s Netflix produced political satire about two astronomers – DiCaprio and Lawrence – who attempt to warn the world that a giant meteorite will hit it in six months, likely writing the end for the earth as we know it.
For at least one of the new trio of actors that have signed on to Don’t Look Up, this new film will mark a reunion with Adam McKay: Tyler Perry – a woefully underrated actor – acted in the McKay directed film Vice as General Colin Powell. Among film aficionados that recognize truly great performances, Perry is perhaps best known for his scene-stealing turn in director David Fincher’s smash hit Gone Girl.
Veteran actor Ron Perlman is perhaps best known to fans for such cult favorite projects as Beauty and the Beast and Hellboy, as well as more mainstream projects like Sons of Anarchy and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Rounding out the three new additions to the film which begins shooting in Boston next week is actor par excellence Melanie Lynskey. Lynskey is perhaps best known to fans for HBO’s Togetherness. Along with that, she acted alongside Don’t Look Up cast-mate Cate Blanchett in the Emmy catnip known as Mrs. America.
No character details were revealed for the three actors joining the film, but Vents will continue to update this project as we learn more details. Stay tuned, Vents fans!
