Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been!
We’ve been keeping well, surviving the lockdown by playing lots and lots of music.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Weight in Gold”?
We were actually working on a separate song when Marty came up with a bass line in his head. We started tracking the bass line, then the magic happened. An extremely short but addictive melody emerged which helped create the direction of the song, we started to improvise guitar lines and before we knew it we had developed a sound and structure we were really happy with. We channelled inspiration from bands like Moby, Jungle and Bonobo to help improve the feel.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song.
Funny enough the lyrics in the song describe a person choosing to live in isolation, to separate themselves from the world for a short time. As cliché as it sounds, it could be influenced by the restriction laws and having to spend more time away from people. However the lyrics really describe how hard the uphill climb is to achieve one’s goals, and sometimes it’s necessary to take a break and re-evaluate.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Yes, we are! It will be the first original video that we will have released. We are really excited about the concept as well. It combines the use of real footage and animation. Expect to see the video released shortly after the single has been released. Visually it perfectly describes the feeling and message of the song.
How was the recording and writing process?
All homemade! As we have developed our songwriting and sound as a band, so have we improved the use of technology for recording and performing. We have our own small set up of computers, sound cards, mics and synths. We usually track everything separately, starting from a simple drum beat!
What role does Ireland play in your music?
Ireland is close to our hearts. We have grown up listening to Thin Lizzy, Van Morrison, Paul Brady, the list goes on. It is also our home and the place that inspired us to make music in the first place. We have been playing music together and separately for the past 8 years. We’d love to make an impact here.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
At the minute, we are really focusing on producing high-quality singles. With every track we release, a new sound emerges. We are really enjoying the exploration of different genres, so it might be too early for an album. However, we do plan to release an Ep mid-2021! By then we will have released 12 songs, so there’s an album worth of material!
Any tentative release date or title in mind.
‘Weight in Gold’ will be released on the twentieth of November on all major platforms. Tune in to Spotify, Youtube and Apple music to access the song!
What else is happening in Omonoko’s world
Right now, we are really trying to get the music to a wider audience. We believe if people listened to our back catalogue, they can see what we aim to achieve in music. We want to write music without any barriers or limitations. As a band we are currently working on some new exciting sounds, we can’t wait to show everyone what we have been up to in the coming months.
