Already considered by many to be the actor of her generation, Saoirse Ronan is having a busy 2020 indeed: Fresh off of a buzz generating performance opposite Kate Winslet in the new film Ammonite along with her work in Wes Anderson’s upcoming The French Dispatch, this Oscar nominated Bronx born thespian has just snagged a ticket to head back into the murky past in an as of yet untitled thriller from the ladies and gents over at Searchlight Pictures.
Per the loveable scalawags at Deadline, Ronan will co-star in this new murder-mystery film set in 1950s London. Joining her in acting duties is a veritable marque of stars such as Sam Rockwell and David Oyelowo. The story itself concerns an anxious Hollywood movie producer who, while attempting to adapt a smash West End play to the silver screen, faces a series of mysterious murders among the production. Rockwell is signed to play the role of a “world-weary” Inspector going by the handle of Stoppard; Ronan plays opposite of Rockwell as an “overzealous” freshman Constable Stalker. Together, they must put together the puzzle pieces that will lead them to the true killer before time runs out. According to the press release, the film will be in a classic whodunit vein, with ‘50s London acting as the mutually sordid and glamorous backdrop.
Directing this stable of heavyweight actors will be Tom George (This Country, Defending the Guilty). This versatile director, who has also worn the hats of producer and writer during his career, will be joined by noted scribe Mark Chappell. On top of writing this new feature film, Chappell’s previous work includes such critically lauded feature films as Flaked, The Rack Pack and Tony Blair: Rock Star. Claiming producing credits on this new flick will be none other than Damian Jones of Iron Lady fame. Jones has a working relationship with Searchlight Pictures from other such films as Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie and Belle.
Although a production date has yet to be finalized, the wheels are already in motion behind the scenes of this new film: Katie Goodson-Thomas – Head of Development & Production for the UK branch of Searchlight – will oversee the whole shebang. Joining her will be Director of Production Richard Ruiz and Senior Development Exec Pete Spencer. Vents will keep tabs on any updates and bring them to you
