Interview: Fresh Micks

Hi Fresh Micks! How are you?

I’m well and blessed. Living my best life everyday and remaing positive even in these uncertain, unpredictable times of 2020. Staying creative and healthy as I can. I can only hope everyone else is doing the same.

Where are you from?

I was born in Monterey, California but spent the majority of my childhood in my hometown of King City, CA where I grew up and went to highschool. After secondary school, I moved to Salinas, CA for about 7 years until I turned 25 and moved to northern CA (Humboldt County) since February of 2020. It’s the complete opposite of a busy town like Los Angeles or San Francisco but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

What is your greatest inspiration for your music?

Hearing and seeing other people’s creativity, especially my friends and people I know, is a big, and probably number 1 factor for my inspiration. Real life events always play a role as well as I try to include real aspects of my life in my music. Again, creativity in general is the main driver, whether it’s music, art, fashion or anything in between. I just want to see everyone create and be as successfull as possible.

What are 3 words that describe your music?

Really good question. In short: Authentic, Melodic, and Professional

What is the hardest subject you’ve ever written about?

There are a lot of songs that will never be released to the public that I have in the vault. Many of those are very personal songs about very intimate subjects. From growing up without having a dad, love and friendship, and personal experiences, I find it’s harder to write about self-reflection and being honest with oneself. Recognizing your own flaws and being okay or learning how to deal with them is a topic I write about frequently but is never easy. It’s always difficult to be transparent but is usually worth it in the end.

What are the challenges of being an artist?

Sticking out within a crowd of millions who are chasing the same goals and accomplishments. Getting my music in front of the right people without any well-established connections or huge label budgets is the most difficult part for all musicians, I’d imagine. I’d love to do all this myself until I’m the biggest artist in the world. I know that may not be 100% feasable, but doing so is possible, yet very difficult. The process of making music and creating quality new content isn’t difficult, but getting it to the right ears, for me is the hardest part. And the budget of course, but I feel that’s a problem for 90% of musicians.

Are you planning on releasing new music soon?

Yes! While I have my EP “Disaster” out now already, A LOT of moves are being made in the background. I feel like I’m always in work mode and creating something. I’m sure I have enough to release at least 2 more bodies of work RIGHT NOW, but patience is key. Everybody has a plan but don’t know how to plot. I have so much in the works coming out very soon. My EP “Disaster” is a more melodic, RNB body of work with lots of rap influence. I hope to soon reach the other side of the spectrum and make some more upbeat, fun, careless, “IGNANT” rap stuff. It will all come soon. No dates yet. But it’s coming very soon. Till then, stream my EP “Disaster”, out everywhere!
