INTERVIEW: Elodie Rêverie

Hi Elodie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thank you! I love Vents and really enjoyed my last interview with you guys. I’ve been good – I recently put out an animated music video for Under the Radar which has been selected by Venice shorts of the week, Chandler Film Fest, and some others for the best music video category which is exciting!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single ‘Red Carpet’?

When I was 10, I had the opportunity to be in a Sundance film called Pieces of April written and directed by Peter Hedges (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, About a Boy, Dan in Real Life) starring Katie Holmes. I had a small role, but I was allowed to walk down the red carpet because Peter knew how much it would mean to me. This song is evidence that it meant a hell of a lot to me, because I’ve written about it nearly 20 years after the fact. After releasing my most recent single ‘Under the Radar’ (July 2020) I saw that 68 people were listening at once on my Spotify for Artists app and I texted my mom saying that I felt like I was walking the red carpet again.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

“Red Carpet” came about from a recent experience triggering an older memory described above which was cool, but I think people interpret it in their own way and the backstory isn’t mandatory to disclose, it’s an indirect influence. Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?I am actually editing the video today!

How was the recording and writing process?

I wrote the lyrics on an iPhone and starting arranging the melody singing acapella onto an iPhone note. I envisioned it as a disco track. I’ve been working with a producer named Riley Urick and it obviously didn’t turn out as a disco track, but it felt like it fit the song and my voice and the lyrics get to take center stage.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes I am working on four different singles!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

“Stadium In My Head” will probably drop in the next few weeks or late January.

What else is happening next in Elodie Reverie’s world?

I am doing a livestream on Sunday at 4:20 EST on twitch.tv/roadnation
