Today, the Brooklyn-based artist Elijah Wolf released a new single “At Times / At Night,” the third track to be taken from his forthcoming album Brighter Lighting out February 26 via Trash Casual Records. The track features contributions from Photay, Josh Jaeger (drummer for Angel Olsen & Fleet Foxes) and Sam Cohen, who produced the album. A limited edition vinyl pressing is now available for pre-order via Rough Trade record stores.

“‘At Times / At Night’ is a song about simply sitting still to observe the world around you, in a life that can move so fast,” explains Elijah. “I wrote it one Sunday afternoon while watching a rain storm through my window. It was a rare moment where everything felt still, & I felt completely present in my life. I wrote this song as a reminder to always take the time to be still, & to look around & observe.”
“After the first album sessions with Sam Cohen, I left for a month long tour with my dear friend Photay. Throughout those 4 weeks we had the chance to listen to the rough mixes & early studio versions on long drives through the different epic landscapes of the US & Canada. When we got home, we went straight back into the studio to finish up. This one features Photay on Buchla Synthesizer.”
Recorded with acclaimed producer Sam Cohen (Kevin Morby, Andrew Combs) and an all-star band including Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, drummer Joshua Jaeger (Angel Olsen, Lionlimb), and multi-instrumentalist Photay, Brighter Lighting marks the start of an adventurous new chapter for Wolf, who moves beyond the spare and isolated bedroom folk of his earlier work here in favor of a more collaborative, immersive sound.
“After making a very solo record, almost completely alone, I wanted to build a musical community around this new record to share in the creative process. This marks a new chapter for this project, as it is now much more than just me. Brighter Lighting is a record about taking a moment to look out & observe the things around you that we miss in our daily lives. It’s a record about deep reflection of the past & being still in a life that moves fast.”
