INTERVIEW: Ariel Bellvalaire

Hi Ariel, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Thank you for having me! I’ve been great and very busy! Besides for playing guitar, writing songs, and making music, I’ve been busy teaching children’s music lessons, taking online music classes myself and have been constantly working out with my aerial gymnastics! Never a dull moment around here.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Elastic”?

“Elastic” is such a fun song. It combines my love of catchy pop vocal melodies with punchy electric guitar and of course, a face melting guitar solo to top it off! I really wanted a pop rock anthem about the ups and downs of relationships that everyone could relate to.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

At the time of writing this song, I was in a relationship that was always up and down. When we were together, it was always so much fun and felt like it was going somewhere but whenever we were apart I never knew where we stood. Every time I told myself I’d end things and move on, he would always pull me back in! No matter how far either of us pulled away, we always seemed to snap back together like an elastic band.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes! We shot the most amazing video! It incorporates everything I do as an artist. It shows off my guitar playing, aerial gymnastics, daredevil stunts, and of course guinea pig, Gucci, made an appearance (and stole the show!) It will be released after Thanksgiving and takes the song to a whole new level!

How was the recording and writing process?

Both the recording and writing process were incredible. Every time I have a writing session, I like to write down a list of potential song titles that relate to things I’m going through to give all of us in the writing room some motivation. I had the title “Elastic Love” written down and the word “Elastic” really resonated with me because of the nature of my relationship, the fact that whenever I get knocked down I always snap back and since I’m a gymnast, I feel elastic when I’m doing crazy tricks on stage. I flew to Nashville for the sessions and when the other writers and I started playing around with the song, we instantly fell in love with the melodies and soon the song became “Elastic.” The recording process for this song was beyond amazing. Nashville musicians are on a level all their own and when I was in the vocal booth, they counted off the intro to the song and I was blown away that the song I was hearing was mine!

What role does LA play in your music?

LA will always play an important role in my music. To me, Los Angeles represents the city of rock n’ roll where you can have heavy distorted guitar, rock solos, be able to put on an over the top show, and always be able to get away with wearing a bedazzled leather jacket! Being a rock guitarist from the start means I always want to incorporate that sound in some way or another into my music and it’s so great that the LA rock scene is alive and well.

How has Avril Lavigne and Van Halen influenced your writing?

Avril Lavigne was my first musical love. Hearing her dark guitar driven songs with pop melodies really hit me and I strived to be like her when I was young. Growing up with that music really influenced me to have catchy yet dark songs that centered around electric guitar. The difference is I love to add guitar solos and that’s where my love of Van Halen comes in! Eddie Van Halen always blew me away with his over the top stage tricks and his amazing tapping riffs on the guitar. Tapping is one of my favorite guitar tricks and many of my solos were inspired by the king of guitar.

Does the new single mean we can expect any new material – how’s that coming along?

YES!! I’m so proud to say that I have recorded an entire album of songs in Nashville! It incorporates many of my different sides. We have songs that are more pop, some that are heavier rock, some with funk riffs and everything is centered around my love for the electric guitar!

Any tentative release date in mind?

The next single will be released at the beginning of the new year! I’m still deciding which song I want to release next (it’s between two!) But I can promise you that the next single will be just as guitar dominant and catchy as “Elastic!”

What else is happening next in Ariel Bellvalaire’s world?

Now that my first single “Elastic” is out, all the fun begins! You can catch me performing on live streams, posting videos of guitar and vocal performance, aerial gymnastics, “Shrednastics”  which is what I call playing guitar solos upside down while doing aerial gymnastics and getting ready to film another video for the next single! “
