Ranking Every Episode Of A Surprisingly Good 13th Season Of ‘The Simpsons’

I feel like I never think about The Simpsons in this era anymore. When I go to Simpsons bar trivia (which I did for years until, you know, going to a bar became a thing we don’t really do) they only cover the first 11 seasons. These are still episodes that I know I have seen a ton of times, but they just sort of exist to me, in a way. The show had already taken its dip, so it was not jarring the show wasn’t as good. That means I am not as fond of the seasons in the, say, 13 through 16 range, but I was probably still dealing with the fallout of The Simpsons not being the all-time classic show it once was. That being said, we’re still in the time where I was watching episodes in repeat over and over and over. I mean, I was just starting high school when this season began, and I was watching reruns every day into my early twenties. Eventually, I am going to get to a point where I don’t have a strong memory of every episode in a season. When that happens, I will stop doing these rankings. We’re probably several seasons from that happening, though. So let’s get to the season 13 rankings. I write these intros before I actually check which episodes are in the season and figuring out my rankings, so as of this moment I don’t know what’s about to unfold.

22. “The Parent Rap”

21. “Blame it on Lisa”

20. “Gump Roast”

19. “Treehouse of Horror XII”

18. “Little Girl in the Big Ten”

16. “I Am Furious (Yellow)”

15. “The Frying Game”

13. “Homer the Moe”

12. “The Blunder Years”

11. “Sweet and Sour Marge”

10. “Brawl in the Family”

9. “The Old Man and the Key”

8. “She of Little Faith”

7. “The Sweetest Apu”

6. “Weekend at Burnsie’s”

5. “Jaws Wired Shut”

4. “The Lastest Gun in the West”

3. “The Bart Wants What It Wants”

2. “A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love”

1. “Poppa’s Got a Brand New Badge”

Hey, not too bad of a season! Well, “The Parent Rap” truly sucks. That’s one of my least-favorite episodes. It was one of the episodes I would skip when it came up in repeats. “Blame it on Lisa” is also a bad one. “Gump Roast” is a clip show, inexplicably. That being said, a lot of these episodes are pretty good. I would say the top seven episodes are all truly good, and I personally think “Poppa’s Got a Brand New Badge” is a great episode. A lot of these episodes exemplify post-peak Simpsons. They are a little sillier, and maybe have a few lousy jokes sprinkled in, but it’s still a funny show with a lot of memorable moments. A lot of shows would dream of having a season this good. The Simpsons did it in its 13th season, and they have several seasons even better than this one.
