Hi Reggie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
A. I’ve been pretty great, all things considered. Busy!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Break Through”?
A. Sure! This one is a big step forward for me as a producer, and for all of us as a band. Very stoked to finally update The Ellameno Beat’s sonic identity with this one.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
A. If I’m being completely honest with you, yes. Mowing my back yard haha. This one just popped into my head while I was workin’ away one evening, and I ran inside after I was done and started tracking. Got grass clippings all over my control room to prove it… But It really is a culmination of a bunch of things I had going on in my head at the time. We were sunk in to the first wave of Covid (early May,) and it felt like there was a huge barrier between where we all were, and where we all wanted to be. “Break Through” was a bit of a coping mechanism for me I guess.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
A. Yes! We’ve actually just put a video out. Our drummer Jimmy got his hands on a bunch of awesome vintage 16mm footage. He and I spent a couple days cutting it up and pairing it with some stuff I shot, then I went in and did a bunch of motion graphics. Really excited with the outcome!
How was the recording and writing process?
A. Fast. By the time I finished mowing my yard, the whole song was about done in my head. I believe I recorded most of the parts first take, and had a rough mix in about 3 hours (which NEVER happens.)
What role does Florida play in your music?
A. Living on the East Coast of Florida has provided us with access to the Atlantic ocean, and we all LOVE surfing. I always come out of the water with a new song idea, or melody in my head. Many, if not all, of our songs have at least some element or motif that was created while out in the water.
How has the current pandemic situation has influenced your writing?
A. It’s provided me the opportunity to really reflect, and get in-tune with myself as a creator. And, it’s given me the time I need to flesh everything out in the studio without any distractions.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
A. Yes. A ton of music has been created this year.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
A. Stay tuned!!
What else is happening next in The Ellameno Beat’s world?
A. For now, all focus is on continuing to build my studio and create more music. But, we are definitely eager to get back to touring as soon as its safe.
