Ranking Every Episode Of Season 12 Of ‘The Simpsons’

Last time around, these Simpsons rankings things took a turn. Season 11 was not a very good season of television. I watched the greatest show of all-time become decidedly mediocre. However, I am persisting. I am going to keep up these rankings for as long as I can. Could season 12 possibly be better than season 11? Will there be hope? I know it won’t be a great season. There likely won’t even be any great episodes. So what does the ranking for season 12, the final season run by Mike Scully (who oversaw the show’s drop in quality by increasing its silliness) look like? Well, it looks like this:

21. “New Kids on the Blecch”

20. “I’m Goin’ to Praiseland”

19. “Bye Bye Nerdie”

18. “Simpsons Tall Tales”

17. “Homer vs. Dignity”

16. “Children of a Lesser Clod”

15. “The Great Money Caper”

14. “A Tale of Two Springfields”

13. “Tennis the Menace”

12. “Treehouse of Horror XI”

11. “The Computer Wore Menace Shoes”

10. “Trilogy of Error”

9. “Worst Episode Ever”

8. “HOMR”

7. “Lisa the Tree Hugger”

6. “Insane Clown Poppy”

5. “Simpson Safari”

4. “Hungry, Hungry Homer”

3. “Pokey Mom”

2. “Day of the Jackanapes”

1. “Skinner’s Sense of Snow”

You know, this season isn’t too bad. It’s different from season 11. That season had me thinking, “Oh that was a bad one,” and “That one is really good” in equal measure. It’s a polarized season. On the other hand, season 12 is much steadier. “New Kids on the Blecch” is a terrible episode. One of the worst. A lot of people consider “Homer vs. Dignity” one of the worst episode’s ever. It’s thought of as a “jump the shark” moment. That being said, for a lot of these episodes I thought to myself, “Hey, that one is pretty good!” I would say every episode from 14 up is at least pretty good, and the top six or so are quite good. “Skinner’s Sense of Show” is a really good episode, actually. All in all, I would say season 12 is a step up from season 11, though it’s still a far cry from the glory days. I wonder if season 13 will continue the solid, if unremarkable, vibe.
