The three best PLA filaments for 3D printing

Picking the right material is always extremely important. This is for example the case if you are going to develop a part with the help of CNC machining. However, if you decide to use a different manufacturing technique such as 3D printing it is still necessary to use the right material. This is not easy, since there are many different materials out there that can be used. Hiring a 3D print service will make it much easier for you, since their employees have so much experience and knowledge regarding additive manufacturing. However, you can do some research yourself. Below you will find the three best PLA filaments, with PLA meaning Polylactic Acid. This is a material that is used a lot in combination with a 3D printer.

HATCHBOX PLA Printer Filament

The first PLA filament that we are going to introduce is made by a company called HATCHBOX. This 3D printing material is seen as extremely high-quality and has a high star rating on Amazon. This PLA filament can be used to create 3D products with a glossy finish, while it will have little to no warping. HATCHBOX’s material is extremely easy to use. On top of that, it is 100 percent eco-friendly. The scent emitted during the printing process is quite mild and pleasant actually, which is surprising.

Ultimaker PLA Printer Filament

Ultimaker is a Dutch company that creates premium quality filaments, including a PLA one. This material is available in many different colors, including red, magenta, blue, black, and much more. Besides filaments, Ultimaker also produces 3D printers. They had this in mind when developing their PLA filament. Due to its consistent diameter, which is 2.85 millimeter, it has a slight risk of jams. Furthermore, the PLA filament created by Ultimaker has great tolerances and extremely high strength. Amazon users rate it very well, by the way.

Proto-pasta PLA Printer Filament

Proto-pasta is a product that has been created in Vancouver, Washington by a company called ProtoPlant. It is an innovative material that has been made possible due to Kickstarter. Material scientists collaborated to first develop the Proto-pasta PLA filament in 2013. Their material is stiffer than normal PLA, while the dimensional stability is superior too. This aids warp-free 3D printing. This way the 3D products do not just look great, they perform to perfection as well. The filament is available in black and gray.
