INTERVIEW: Kaidy Superville

Hi Kaidy, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello hello hellooo, thanks so much for having me! I’ve been as good as any Goddess could possibly be during a global pandemic lol, so happy to be Alive, so happy for my health, so happy to be magical lol.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Syrup”?

Omg yes, Syrup is a hot young thing, let me tell you! It’s sultry, it’s sexy, a super passion filled piece. I really channeled my inner “R&b diva” with this one. The lyrics are metaphors, alluding to physical intimacy but is actually about getting close to someone special. Diving in deep with them and becoming fused together. I really adore this record.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It’s actually kind of a long, strange story. So my cousin aka my best friend, called me early in the morning about a dream she had the night before. In the dream she saw me performing a song at some concert. She couldn’t remember what the song was about or the exact name, so she was just saying random words that sort of matched what she saw in her dream. One of the words mentioned was “Syrup”. That same night she had that dream, I was with my (let’s call him) “lover” who I was absolutely crazy about. So before she even called I was already in my feelings and super “inspired” to write lol. Once I heard the word “syrup”, I immediately started writing a poem and then boom the song was written.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

yes yes yes, I do have plans to release a video for syrup. I actually shot it all the way back in February and I am excited for the world to see it. It’s Coming folks, coming so soon. I promise.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was pretty simple, I basically wrote all my lyrics and melodies in like 30 minutes. BUT actually recorded it 3 different times, until it had the right tone and vibe. Thank god for the very talented and patient producer Chance, who engineers all my music.

What was it like to work with Jimi Tents and how did that relationship develop?

Jimi Tents is awesome. The best, He is the coolest guy ever. Plus we are both from Brooklyn so that’s an automatic vibe. My cousin RISH, another Brooklyn artist, actually connected us because he thought it would be a dope collab. Thank heavens, because he was def spot on with that one.

How much did he get to influence the song?

Well the song was conceptualized months before he agreed to be a part of it. Then once he was on board, he definitely helped with sonically bringing the song together. He helped with notes for mixes and gave very honest input the entire time, until we both came to a consensus of the track being FIRE.

Do you tend to take a different approach when collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

This was actually the first time I collaborated with another artist, for one of my own records. There’s not much of a difference when working with other artists lol to be very honest. I’m super particular with everything but laid back at the same time. I care most about the energy and the vibe of the record being just right. No switching up, same motto for anyone.

What role does Brooklyn play in your music?

Brooklyn is everything in my music. Are you kidding me.. My delivery, my use of language, my whole essence is just, Boom Brooklyn haha. East Flatbush Brooklyn though, Because I’m caribbean af. But seriously Brooklyn inspires me OD.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Hell yea! Absolutely yes! There’s an entire album coming. Yes, Album. I’m fine tuning all of the details and making sure everything is how I heard and imagined when it was first in my head. It’s basically complete and it’s SO good.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The suspense is killing me, no set date at the moment. but for sure, the top of 2021. My baby girl is titled Unconditional. She will be my first, so I’m super delicate with her.

What else is happening next in Kaidy Superville’s world?

FASHION! Stay tuned style lovers. But yea def more music, more collabs and if the state of the world permits, hopefully my first Tour. Cough cough* Dear Universe, let’s get to work and make it happen. Fingers, toes, everything crossed lol.
