Hi Benoit, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I am very well thank you! I taste the pleasures of the internet, music is more than ever accessible everywhere to everyone.
There are no more limit to the development of ambitious music. The artist can be in contact with his audience more and more easily.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Vortex”?
Vortex is an attempt to hypnotize via digital synthesis. Technology makes it possible to manipulate sound to the molecular level, to reach our nervous system in the most precise way and communicate emotion. The emotion that I want to transmit is the mystery and the beauty of existence, its celebration.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The fact of being alive.
The single comes off your new album Agate – what’s the story behind the title?
Agate is a woman’s name, Agate is a precious stone, but above all Agate means A-gate.
This refers to the doors of perceptions, and how this album claims to be a gate, among others.
How was the recording and writing process?
Under hallucinogenic substances sometimes, alone always.
Thinking about it in nature and then bringing that feeling back to my computer.
What role does France play in your music?
France is my culture of birth, so surely a lot. But I’m in love with all the european classical music, so in this sense, I feel european.
How has Air and Daft Punk influenced your writing?
Daft Punk simply because they represent an absolute reference in electronic music, in terms of production, and in the skillful balance between melodious and dancing music.
In a same way, Air has managed to make pop formats while being sophisticated, in the production as in the forms.
And above all, the emotion that they evoke me both: futurism, melancholy, romanticism.
Typically electronically French.
What aspect of philosophy did you get to explore on this record?
I wanted to find a balance between modern music, dancing and electronic, but with a requirement of rich melodies and harmonies, which carries a good vibe, deep and mystical.
Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
An album is an organic construction, which takes shape unconsciously and instinctively. By making it, we find things that make us think about ourselves, and this reflection go back into the process of composition, back and forth.
The poetic text that accompanies the titles came to me some time after I had finished all the tracks, a story about a spiritual journey, an open gate to a certain truth. It remains abstract to let everyone put they story, because this is what music is, a memory in which we insert our own emotions, a mirror that reflects back to us an enlightened way.
What else is happening next in Losange’s world?
I will continue my quest to make beautiful music, try to bring together what I love, classical music, and electronic music, I also pursue other creatives fields, digital painting, photography, reflexions.
