Walk Me Home by VISSIA

Coming from the frozen winters of Northern Canada is a woman with the glacial voice and showstopping talent to match. VISSIA’s unique look and emboldened attitude makes for a truly captivating artist even before she’s opened her mouth. New single ‘Walk Me Home’ is a beautifully performed ballad which sees the talented musician admit her own vulnerability even as she presents herself as stronger than ever.

Utterly emotive and expertly produced, the piano-led ‘Walk Me Home’ is a song which plays on VISSIA’s strongest suit – her powerhouse of a voice. It leads the song, a powerful ballad about asking for help when it’s needed; and is an intriguing match to Vissia’s stark appearance, and the strong figure of an alt-pop superstar she has already begun to create for herself.

Drawing from the power she finds in nature and in the earth, as well as the empowerment which is inarguably found in the capability to admit her own vulnerability, VISSIA’s music takes on otherworldly properties. ‘Walk Me Home’ is no different; VISSIA’s production is dreamlike, with an ethereal yet powerful vocal floating over the top, with as much warmth and depth as her eyes.

It is clear that in writing ‘Walk Me Home’, VISSIA found a sense of solace, of arriving at the person she was supposed to be all along. Speaking of the song, she says, “It wasn’t until a couple of months later that I realized that the song I’d just written shared the same sentiment as a beloved Ram Dass quote; we’re all just walking each other home. Maybe I had forgotten about reading it before? I don’t believe in coincidence, so however it found its way from my subconscious and onto the page is not really all that important to me. ‘Walk Me Home’ is a reflection on what vulnerability means to me. It’s not a weakness to need someone to lean on. It’s okay to be kind to the messiest parts of myself. It’s taken me a long time to forgive my past selves. Choosing my emotions over chaotic escapism really is a practice, and it does get easier the more I do it.”

The video was, of course, shot in her own house – but this only serves to show more of the person behind the voice, the personality of who VISSIA really is. “This music video was created at home during quarantine using whatever I had around in my house. I borrowed some wardrobe pieces from my sister and my roommate and, assisted by my sister, did three days of shooting the three different versions of myself. Rather than focus on reality, I wanted to be colourful and creative with the concept. This is the first video I’ve done lip-syncing a song, so it was definitely a challenge getting comfortable performing on camera. This video was also my first dive into learning about colour grading and correction, which is a skill that takes years to learn and master, so I’m pretty happy with where I ended up with it.”

‘Walk Me Home’ is the sound of an artist completely comfortable with every facet of her being. The single is out on the 28th October 2020.
