Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi, thanks for having us. We’re doing great thanks, hope you guys here at Vents Magazine are good too!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Do It Again”?
Yeah sure! ‘Do It Again’ is our second record and is an introduction to our first E.P which we are in the process of recording and finalising. The construct of the song is based on a live demo recording from rehearsals where we picked out some riffs and melodies which we liked, then it all just kind of clicked together. The story behind the song is a personal one following a battle with mental health and it’s been a topic I think is extremely important to talk about currently. The song was then recorded and produced by Rich James Roberts at his studio in North Wales.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Just to elaborate really on what I said previously, a personal experience and the stigma of mental health in general, especially in men. We’re not afraid to talk about the real problems in the world today.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Not at the moment, COVID-19 hit the brakes on getting one done. It’s something we’ll be looking to do with the next record.
How was the recording and writing process?
Writing just came naturally as we all have known each other from different projects / bands over the years. This song was written pretty quickly after our first rehearsal and everyone equally contributed, which was really cool. We’ve worked with producer Rich James Roberts many times over the years, he’s great and offers that extra edge when it comes to the final product.
What role does North Wales play in your music?
I think it’s a small area with a small music scene, but I think it’s impact has been huge as we’d never have met or seen each other play in different bands if we weren’t gigging the local venues.
How has Bring Me The Horizon and Biff Clyro influenced your writing?
They’ve definitely inspired us to think outside the box when it comes to writing. They’re 2 heavyweights in the genre and really helps us when we’re looking for a little influence, especially in the studio.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yeah absolutely! We’re itching to get back in the studio but COVID-19 is preventing us from moving as fast as we want. However, you should expect an E.P before summer 2021 if all goes to plan.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
It all depends on the state of the world by next year. Hopefully we release just before summer 2021 with touring to follow.
What else is happening next in Glass Waves’ world?
We’re working with the awesome SaN PR who are really getting the most out of ‘Do It Again’ they’re great. Other than that, we’re just writing and waiting to get back in the studio.
