Ranking An Alarmingly Poor Season 11 Of ‘The Simpsons’

I’ve decided to keep going through Simpsons seasons and ranking every episode. We’ve passed the peak of the show, but there are still good episodes, and we’re still in the episodes that I watched over and over on repeat back in the days of syndication. Eventually we’ll get to the point where I’ve seen episodes once or twice at most and can barely remember them. We’re not there yet, though. Season 11 is a distinct drop off from season 10, which was a drop off from season nine. Great episodes will be few and far between. Episodes that are actually not good will start showing up. That makes the ranking process different. And now, we enter a new era of The Simpsons, and my rankings.

22. “Bart to the Future”

21. “Eight Misbehavin”

20. “Saddlesore Galactica”

19. “Kill the Alligator and Run”

18. “Take My Wife Sleaze”

17. “Brother’s Little Helper”

16. “Days of Wine and D’oh’ses”

15. “Alone Again, Natura-Diddily”

14. “Pygmoelien”

13. “Missionary: Impossible”

12. “Faith Off”

11. “Treehouse of Horror X”

10. “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Marge”

9. “Behind the Laughter”

8. “Last Tap Dance in Springfield”

7. “Hello Gutter, Hello Fadder”

6. “Beyond Blunderdome”

5. “Little Big Mom”

4. “E-I-E-I (Annoyed Grunt)”

3. “Grift of the Magi”

2. Guess Who’s Coming to Criticize Dinner?”

1. “The Mansion Family”

Wow. This is not a good season of television. “Bart to the Future” is one of the worst episodes ever. This was when the show was just too damn silly. In “Saddlesore Galactica” it turns out jockeys are basically leprechauns with their own little worlds. That’s stupid as hell. So many episodes have really funny jokes, but also stuff that is dumb and sweaty. Like, “Missionary: Impossible” is half a good episode, half inane jokes that don’t care about the reality of the show. That’s probably why this is the highest-ranked “Treehouse of Horror” yet. All the nonsense tracks in a Halloween episode. I would say only the top-four episodes of season 11 are truly, markedly good episodes. They are all really good, if still silly. The Simpsons really dropped off a cliff after season 10. Going through this process really clarified that for me.
