Old Country Western Songs

Country songs have been blended a lot, but few have maintained the originality of the genre. Memorable country western songs are those performed by iconic artists like Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton. Old western country songs are more than just whiskey bars and cowboy stuff. The songs have themes of hard work, perseverance in the face of adversities, and family loyalty. Below is a list of incredibly impactful songs that come close to The Beatles while my guitar gently weeps

‘Jackson’ by Johnny Cash and June Carter

Johnny Cash has released some of the hottest songs in the 60s. But the fact that he worked with June carter in Jackson made the song an instant hit. The song’s comprehensive themes and iconic instrumentation earned the duo their first career Grammy. It remains many people’s favorite, more than four decades after it was released.

‘Concrete Angel’ by Martina McBride

Though released in 2002, the song fits perfectly in the category of the best old country-western music. McBride somehow managed to maintain the old features of the genre in the song. The singer’s unique and high-pitched vocals work wonders in projecting the song’s emotional theme.

‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ by John Denver

Just as the song’s title suggests, the song is solemnly relaxing if you are on a lonely road trip. The song’s tune is a mix of contemporary pop and classical rock. It is probably what makes the song more popular with the new generation than the older one. Widely considered to be John Denver’s signature song, it went ahead to become West Virginia’s iconic symbol. The song is not popular only in West Virginia; it is a household name in the entire United States and world.

‘Jolene’ by Dolly Parton

Arguably one of the most successful artists of country music, Jolly Parton, did not disappoint with Jolene. The song is widely covered, including by artists born after it was released. Dolly once stated that the song was about a fan and bank teller she met in one of her performances.

‘I Walk the Line’ By Johnny Cash

The song broke the record for Johnny Cash in many ways. It did not only become No. 1 on the Billboard chart, but it also remained trending for 43 good weeks. Its strong love theme and complex beats continue to turn heads whenever it is played. Cash stated that the song was dedicated to his new bride hence the romantic touch.

‘The Gambler’ by Kenny Rodgers

Keney Rodgers came close to beating while my guitar gently weeps with several of his songs. The Gambler is one such song. It is unique because it always comes on top, irrespective of who performs it. It has been done by the likes of Johnny Cash and other modern-day artists. The song’s beats are simple yet complicated enough to blend with virtually every other genre. When you think the pop version is best, the reggae version comes to sweep you off your feet.

‘Live Like You Were Dying’ by Tim McGraw

McGraw advises you to live life to the fullest in this uniquely somber piece of art. Live Like You Were Dying swept the floor in the 2004 CMAs and ACMAs awards. It also peaked on Billboard’s top 200 charts for a record 86 weeks.

Country music has maintained its originality despite it being closely related to blues and old-time music. Its unique features consisting of ballads, folk lyrics, dance tunes, and harmonies have been largely borrowed by other genres. Country songs like while my guitar gently weeps used to be associated with pickup trucks and dim whiskey bars, not anymore. They have become major hits at homes and workplaces. Countries like Australia have channels exclusively dedicated to country music. Old country-western songs account for nearly 70% of country music airplay. The songs are a must-have in your car or living room.
