Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
The Dumes: Hi! Stoked to be here! We’ve been good, we’ve been distant, we’re livin’ baby.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Liquor & High”?
The Dumes: We sure can!
Elodie: “Liquor & High” is my dating resumé.
Chris: You’re a total maniac.
Pete: Yeah, buyer beware folks!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Elodie: For the first time, I was in a place where I was ready to be selfish with my time and the people around me weren’t handling it well.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Kyle: Yeah! We’ve got one in the works with super talented director Ali Roberto that we’re excited to share!
Liam: It’s set in the late 70s and we went for the whole vibe.
How was the recording and writing process?
Elodie: This song started as a sad song on piano, but when I brought it into the room with the band, it turned into a totally different feeling. I started owning being a selfish bitch.
Chris: That’s good – that’s edgy!
What was it like to work with Joe Chiccarelli and how did that relationship develop?
Elodie: Honestly, in the beginning I was intimidated because I felt like the new kid in school and Joe was like the cool kid on the playground. He immediately took us under his wing and really pushed our sound and encouraged us to be our best selves.
How much did he get to influence the song?
Chris: He elevated the song but helped keep us true to our voice.
Pete: Yeah! He encouraged us to keep the energy up and stay on the gas pedal throughout the recording process.
What role does LA play in your music?
Elodie: We all met here. From the get go, not only did we get along great, but we loved creating together. I felt like we were all able to get our angst out with no goal of trying to be on trend.
Chris: Which is not easy to come by in L.A.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?
Liam: Next question.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Pete: When we were on the album artwork photo shoot with Emma Cole we stumbled across this wrecked car with “Everything is Horrible” spray painted on the side. That really resonated with us 6 months into the pandemic.
Elodie: We’re not really dating right now… we’re staying distant.
Kyle: Maybe early 2021
What else is happening next in The Dumes’ world?
Chris: We had a blast doing the “Live from L.A.” livestream on October 1st. and are hoping to do more things like that.
Liam: Trying to play as many “shows” as possible.
The Dumes: Thanks for talking to us and stay tuned for more music.
