Hi Svea, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi! I’ve been doing really well! I feel like during these times, I just feel really grateful for my health and that great music is still coming out despite us being in the middle of a global pandemic!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Perfect Wrong Time”?
Yes of course! “Perfect Wrong Time” is a song I wrote about meeting someone you really like, but the timing isn’t right and they’re not really into you anymore. ☹
It’s definitely a sad song, but was healing to write. Part of my creative process was talking with a couple friends about how painful it is to meet someone you really like at the worst possible time.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yeah, so, this guy I was talking to all of a sudden started losing interest in me. And when he broke things off, he said “You’re just not what I’m looking for right now.” The heartbreak and pain I felt inspired me to write “Perfect Wrong Time”.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Yes! I guess it all depends on the reception of the song. But if the people want a video, they’ll get one! LOL
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording process was really fun! I recorded in a little studio in the North Valley in New Mexico. I felt really comfortable and had the opportunity to become vulnerable in the space. The writing process came really easily, and I think it was because the song needed to be written. It was all a big part of my healing process.
What role does LA play in your music?
I used to live in LA. But because of the pandemic, I’ve moved back to New Mexico to live with my mom. Still, it plays a huge role in my music because becoming a successful indie-pop LA songstress is my dream!
How has Fiona Apple and Stevie Nicks influenced your writing?
Fiona Apple’s song “Paper Bag” was one of the first covers I learned to play on the piano. When I first started singing, I didn’t have a huge range, but could sing the low notes. So I gravitated towards Fiona Apple and Stevie Nicks as both have a beautiful lower vocal register. They are both authentic artists and I also strive to find authenticity in my own art.
Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes it does! I’m hoping to drop an EP!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
I’m hoping to release my EP ‘Norma Jean’ by the end of 2020. I’m really inspired by Marilyn Monroe and her story. Her birth name was Norma Jean, and the music is inspired by Hollywood, fame, and of course Marilyn.
What else is happening next in Svea Lyon’s world?
Next, I hope to get in the studio and start recording my EP! You can follow me on my socials to keep up with the creative process and my little musical world! 😊
