INTERVIEW: Nashville Singer-Songwriter & Author Brittany Bexton

Hi Brittany, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Thanks for having me! I’ve been doing well! I’m excited to have some new music out.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Kissin’ Fear Goodbye”?

Absolutely! I wrote this song with my buddy Tommy Collier. We actually wrote it in 2016, I think it was, in the middle of a crazy snowstorm. For me it’s an anthem about the freedom that comes with facing your fears and telling them you’re done with them.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

It wasn’t one particular event exactly. But, at the time I was doing EMDR, a therapy for PTSD. And, I was learning to break through some of the old fear patterns. I had started making new choices that were scary for me, but there was so much freedom on the other side of facing those fears. Those experiences became my inspiration.

Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?

Yes, I would love to do a video for the song. I’m thinking about doing a lyric video compiled of photos from friends and fans of them doing things that made them feel empowered and courageous.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was pretty quick, and it was a perfect day for writing. It was a record snowfall in Nashville that day, and being cozy inside and creating new music was the perfect way to spend it! I was really glad that Tommy loved the idea too! I worked with my buddy Jeremy Holderfield for the production of this song. We spent many hours layering all the instrumental parts until we had the feel we wanted. We took some inspiration from the Goo Goo Dolls, and many of the singer songwriters. We wanted it to have that rootsy rock kind of feel.

What role does Nashville play in your music?

Being in Nashville has definitely grown me as a writer over the years. The amount of music business and writing talent in this town is truly incredible. I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best, and it has helped me hone my craft a lot, and deepen my lyrics.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

It sure does! This is my second single release from the new EP. The first I released in February was “Believe Again.” I will be releasing another single in the late spring/early summer from the EP, then I will be dropping the full EP after that.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I don’t have exact dates for release yet, but I do know that the next single in line is “Dance with the Devil” and that will be a spring/summer release. The full EP will follow shortly after that. The EP will be titled “Metamorphosis.”

What else is happening next in Brittany Bexton’s world?

I’m hoping to do some touring next year, both for my book, and the new music, but I’m not sure when things will be opened enough to regain some of that normalcy. In the meantime, I’m going to be creating some video content to go with both “Kissin’ Fear Goodbye” and my other single release this year, “Believe Again.” I’m also getting ready to launch an online workbook course for folks who are reading my book and want to dive deeper into the healing work. I also do Live Streams every Sunday called “Food & Falsetto,” it’s a cooking show in my home and I sing and play some tunes on piano at the end. That’s about it for now, until we know more about openings in the US.
