After returning near the beginning of October to share her long-awaited comeback single ‘No Leader’, the first taste of her eagerly-awaited debut album ‘To Be Alive, alt-pop goddess Starling is back once again to offer up the official video for her latest release as premiered on CLASH Magazine as their ‘Track of the Day’.
Self-described as “your own personal empowerment anthem”, the new Jean Pierre Clapes-directed visuals for ‘No Leader’ look to create a bold and vivid reminder to all that we are the charge that leads our own lives. As Starling explores the vast and varied world around her, she begins to realise that her happiness and own fulfilment lies within herself, and the opinions and validation of others no longer apply.
Speaking about the new video, she said, “I wanted to make a video to remind people that they are in charge of their own life. In a year such as this, and a lack of leadership globally, this video is to remind people of their power, their inner leader – that it is possible to be the author of your own story.”
Starling will appear on a future episode of the renowned podcast ‘The Guilty Feminist’ presented by Deborah Frances-White, to perform and chat about her new single.
In Starling’s World, there is no judgement, no shame and no apologising for who you are. And as she prepares to release her debut album ‘To Be Alive’ – a positive, powerful alt-pop record about owning both the light and darkness in our lives, Starling has been on a journey of self-realisation, taking her from south London squats to Soho bars and back, full circle.
Born one of six children to a scientist father and artist mother, Starling’s upbringing was an unusual ride – love, trauma, wealth, poverty – a world of extreme contrasts.
