Sonny’s latest single Forever marks a new musical direction, and may well be the best, most affecting record of his career to date.
Hi Sonny, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’m doing well, thank you for asking.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Forever”?
Sure. Forever is probably one of my best tracks I’ve ever produced. I worked on this for about 6 months before I felt the vocals and instrumental really complimented each other.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Well I got the vocals in first so it’s hard to say. I’ve always wanted to write a feel good record that the listener can vibe to in a car or even dance to. Being the current global situation that we are currently facing I feel putting feel good music out is important.
Any plans to release any sort of video for the track?
Yes actually the video is almost done. So we should see that right around release date.
How was the recording and writing process?
So as I said I received the vocals first and totally fell in love with the hook and overall direction of the lyrics. Then it took me about a month to come up with the musical portion that I felt would really compliment the vocals. I wanted this to be as perfect as possible just cause I felt a good connection with the idea.
As we are into some weird times as a society – was it easy to head over into a new direction this time around?
I mean that was the whole purpose of producing a track of this style. I wanted to be able to reach many people on a global level so that they could also connect with the forever feel. The world just needs some love at the moment and hope this record can help with that.
This record is a bit of a change of direction compared to your previous released – what prompted the change?
Well as a producer I feel you should always be diverse in your projections and also evolve. Moving forward I want my music not to just focus on one style but more so be as creative as I want to be. I really believe producers need to be creative and get into any genre they feel that they can connect with. I mean that’s the whole point in being an artist.
What role does NYC play in your music?
I feel that NYC Is super diverse with music and the arts and it’s helped me get familiar with so many styles of music and vibes. I’m actually working on some really cool old school 80’s vibe stuff at the moment as well that works well with the city theme. But I also have to say NY isn’t just a city, there are so many beautiful places outside of the city to visit with amazing views and breath taking sceneries. This really inspired me to write lots of material and I guess having the city life and country life all in the span of about 40 minutes of each other really is a blessing.
Does the new single mean we can expect any other new material – how’s that coming along?
I’m just going to be diverse in my releases moving forward because I don’t want to get stuck in just one style or genre.
What else is happening next in Sonny Noto’ world?
Well unfortunately facing the current situation we aren’t able to really perform live so that’s been a bit of an issue but other than that I’m just taking advantage of the extra time I have in the studio and working on new music. I really love the fall here in NY so I’ll be enjoying the cooler weather. My second home is in Italy and unfortunately I missed out on my usual summer time I spend on the beaches there but I’m hopeful for next summer.
